Tampa Man Killed In Traffic Accident
Tampa Fire Rescue re- sponded to a motel fire early Wednesday. There were no reports of any injuries.
According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the alarm was re- ceived shortly before 1 a.m. When firemen arrived at the Swann Motel, 6407 N. Ne- braska Avenue, they found heavy smoke coming from the north side of the single story, multi-unit motel.
The guests had already been evacuated when fire- men arrived. As a result of the fire possibly spreading to other structures, additional firemen responded.
The cause of the fire re- mains under investigation. However, investigators said it was possibly caused by an electrical malfunction.
The investigation is con- tinuing.
A 56-year-old Tampa man died after being in- volved in a traffic accident. The accident took place Sun- day morning on State Road 574 and Orient Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Steve Aguilar, Jr., was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 approach- ing a red traffic signal at the intersection of Orient Road and State Road 574.
James T. Martin, 60, also of Tampa, was driving a 2019 Ford F-250 north- bound on Orient Road. He was in the westbound turn lane approaching a green traffic signal.
Martin turned left, but Aguilar failed to stop for the red traffic signal. As a result, the front of Aguilar’s vehi- cle collided with the left side
of Martin’s vehicle. Aguilar’s vehicle then
rotated and collided with a trailer being towed by Mar- tin.
Aguilar was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died.
Martin or any of his pas- sengers, identified as Leonel Irizarry, 40, Paul Young, 36, and 76-year-old Donald King reported being injured.
No charges have been filed in the accident. The in- vestigation is continuing.
A 32-year-old Bradenton man is facing charges after leaving the scene of an inci- dent involving a death. The accident occurred around 7 a.m., Sunday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alberto Vigo, Jr., 32, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 truck northbound on I-75, north of Big Bend Road. He at- tempted to pass a 1997 Jeep
SUV, being driven by Ms. Shawna G. Smith, 37, of Wimauma.
Vigo’s truck collided with the back of Ms. Smith’s vehicle, which caused it to enter the outside shoulder of the road and overturned. Ms. Smith was ejected from her vehicle. She died at the scene. Ms. Smith was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the ac-
cident.
After the collision, Vigo
reportedly continued north- bound for approximately three miles before his vehicle became completely inopera- ble.
He was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident with death, and driving with sus- pended license with death.
