Fun Lan Drive-In Closed After 71 Years
When you drive past the fun land drive-in theater, you will no longer see the upcom- ing movies being advertised. Instead, the marquee will read, “We will miss you.” The theater and the flea markets closed because the property is slated to be been sold. The sale has not been finalized and the new prospective new owner has not been identi- fied.
Ernest Coney, Jr.,
CEO of the CDC of Tampa, Inc., told the Sentinel that they had expressed an inter- est in the property, but they have not purchased it for af- fordable housing.
The theater opened as a drive-in in January 1950. Decades later, the property was used as a flea market during day hours. The prop-
wife, Betty Henn, is the
current owner.
