49ers Safety Eric Reid Takes Knee For National Anthem After All
ERIC REID
After the racially charged events that took place in Char- lottesville, Virginia, earlier this month, San Francisco 49ers strong safety Eric Reid said he still did not plan to resume kneeling during the national an- them in protest of racial inequal- ity in the United States.
Upon further consideration, Reid reversed course.
Before the 49ers' third pre- season game Sunday night, a 32- 31 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the NBC telecast showed Reid kneeling surrounded by team- mates, and broadcaster Al Michaels noted that Reid had done so during the national an- them.
The broadcast showed Reid surrounded by teammates Eli Harold, Marquise Goodwin and Lorenzo Jerome, each of whom placed a hand on his shoulder.

BEAUTY UNLIMITED
JAMILETH
Sometimes, the weather can get pretty dreary, but if there’s one thing guaranteed to brighten up any day, it’s our Beauty Un- limited feature. This week, we bring to you Jamileth, who has tal- ents and skills she hasn’t even tapped on yet. This young woman enjoys spending time with her friends, and she is no stranger to the camera. Jamileth loves attention, but she’s anything but con- ceded. Congratulations to Jane as this week’s Beauty Unlimited feature.
On a night when both of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' top two wideouts were missing -- Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson -- rookie Chris Godwin stepped in and showed he not only belonged, but that he's capable of step- ping into a starting role this year, should the need arise.
He played 42 snaps on of- fense (57 percent), more than any other receiver. He was tar- geted five times, managing four catches, including a 19-yarder on the opening drive. He also had two 16-yard receptions in the second quarter, including one that set up a field goal by Nick Folk.
"Godwin did a nice job last night," Koetter said. "You fig- ure, he's our [No.] 4 [receiver] and he needed to play like a one last night, and he did. He did a nice job. Had a couple of explo- sives, he blocked well."
"That's the nice thing about
CHRIS GODWIN
Chris -- he's versatile," Koet- ter said. "He can do a lot of dif- ferent things. I think he still needs to continue to build his stamina for playing hard over 64 plays, but we probably won't ask him to play 64 plays if we're healthy.
Adam Humphries, who primarily handles the slot role, figured to get a lot more work in too. But he left the game in the second quarter with a hip injury and did not return. God- win has shown he's capable of lining up in the slot, if neces- sary.
Cavaliers Could Veto
Steelers wide receiver Mar- tavis Bryant says he took an "intentional" late hit from Indi- anapolis Colts safety Matthias Farley while on the ground during Saturday's 19-15 loss.
While discussing how he bulked up in the offseason to prepare for NFL physicality, Bryant referenced a screen play early in the second quarter that resulted in a gang tackle. Cornerback Vontae Davis brought Bryant down by his right ankle, and with his left knee down, Farley flew in for

Cincinnati Bengals line- backer Vontaze Burfict is facing a five-game suspension for an illegal hit against Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman this month, league sources tell ESPN.
Burfict, a repeat offender, hit the running back in a de- fenseless posture, sources said. ItisanewruletheNFLisim- plementing this season to pro- tect the player who can't protect himself -- and it is going to hurt Burfict and the Bengals.
Burfict is appealing.
The team, in a statement, said it is "aware of the NFL's letter to Vontaze regarding a play in last weekend's game. The film shows that the hit was legal, that Vontaze engaged his opponent from the front, and that contact was shoulder-

His suspension, if it stands, will cost Burfict $882,353 in lost base-salary game checks. Burfict is entering the last year of his contract and is scheduled to become a free agent after this season.
Burfict has a hearing next week with the NFL.
After Cleveland's physical ex- amination of Isaiah Thomas' injured hip raised concern about the timeline for his return this season, Cavaliers officials are planning to seek an additional trade asset before finalizing a deal to send four-time All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics, league sources said.
Without revisions to the orig- inal trade agreement, the Cava- liers could threaten to veto the trade, league sources said.
The Cavaliers' stance could trigger a standoff between Cleve- land and Boston officials, forcing both organizations to weigh the consequences of letting the blockbuster trade implode.
The proposed trade sending Irving to the Celtics for two- time All-Star Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic and an unprotected 2018 first-round pick via Brooklyn was thrust into uncertainty once Thomas underwent his exam in Cleveland on Friday, league sources said. The deadline to re- port and submit to a physical for the players involved in the trade is 10 a.m. ET Wednesday, and the deadline to pass the physical is 10 a.m. ET Thursday, per league rules.
