Political Prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal Is Near Death
MUMIA ABU-JAMAL
Philadelphia, PA --- Supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal say the state of Pennsylvania is trying to kill the political prisoner by ne- glecting his health.
Abu-Jamal celebrated his 61st birthday, but there is little cause to celebrate after a visit from his wife. A report from the Bring Mumia Home Campaign states that “his condition has worsened.”
St. Louis Suburb’s New Mayor Locked Out Of City Hall
BETTY MCCRAY
KINLOCH, Mo. -- The first well-established African-American community in St. Louis County, Kinloch was once a flourishing town with some 10,000 residents.
Today, the population is less than 300. They elected a new mayor earlier this month: Betty McCray, 64, a seven-year veteran of the Kinloch Board of Aldermen. She won with 76 percent of the vote -- that is, 63 votes.
But the Board of Aldermen re- fused to swear her in, and now McCray can't get into city hall.
On Thursday, after she was sworn in She was denied entry and handed impeachment papers by the city attorney, James Robin- son sue to alleged voter fraud.
McCray has hired a lawyer and plans to file an injunction against the city.

Deshawn Isabelle is charged as an adult with robbery and sexual assault. He was turned in on Wednesday by his mother. On Thursday, prosecu- tors detailed his alleged crimes, which took place on Monday af- ternoon inside a Chicago train car in which, police said, Is- abelle and the victim were the only occupants.
Isabelle allegedly kicked and punched the victim and pushed her head against the ground.

Mourners Gather At Wake Of Baltimore Man Who Died After Police Arrest
Jewish Groups Want UCLA To Uninvite Cornel West As Speaker
FREDDIE GRAY
... died days after being arrested.
BALTIMORE, MD - Mourn- ers gathered at a Baltimore fu- neral home on Sunday to remember a 25-year-old Black man who died a week ago while in police custody, an unex- plained death that has brought thousands to the city's down- town to protest police violence.
The wake for Freddie Gray on Sunday afternoon came the day after the largest demonstra- tion yet since he died on April 19 and two weeks after a foot chase with patrol officers, his eventual arrest and his ride in a police transport van.
Anthony Batts, the city's police commissioner, said on Friday that officers who de- tained Gray failed to give him timely medical attention for a spinal injury he suffered while in custody.
The head of the Baltimore police union called that asser- tion premature and said it was apparently "politically driven."
About 2,000 people marched on Saturday afternoon through downtown Baltimore.
As darkness fell, about 100 protesters splintered off and

threw bottles, metal barricades and other objects at police offi- cers and their cruisers, author- ities said.
The windows of several busi- nesses were smashed, Batts, the police commissioner, said.
Police arrested 34 people who ignored orders to disperse, Batts said, and at least six offi- cers were hurt in skirmishes. Several police vehicles were damaged.
Fredericka Gray, Fred- die's twin sister, joined Balti- more Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake at a news conference, urging calm.
Six Baltimore police officers have been suspended in the Gray case, and an internal po- lice investigation is under way.
Much of the violence oc- curred near Camden Yards, where the Orioles were playing the Boston Red Sox. Toward the end of the game, fans were told to stay in place because of- ficials were concerned about safety.
Funeral services for Gray are scheduled for Monday morning, followed by his burial.
Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel was a Jewish theolo- gian and civil rights activist close to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Cornel West, the philosopher and African American history scholar who often speaks out on public issues, describes himself as an admirer of Heschel.
But some Jewish organiza- tions and pro-Israel figures say they don’t want West to deliver a keynote address at an upcom- ing UCLA conference celebrat- ing Heschel’s life and commitment to social justice.
They want West uninvited to the May 3-4 meeting because of what they describe as his offen- sive criticism of Israel’s policies toward the Palestinians and his support for universities to divest holdings from companies that do business with the Israeli mil-
itary. West has called Is- raeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war crimi- nal for the civilian deaths in the Gaza conflict last year.
UCLA offi-
cials, how-
ever, say they
are sticking
with West,
who is a professor emeritus at Princeton, teaches at the Union Theological Seminary in New York and co-hosts the public radio show “Smiley & West.” To drop him would violate free speech, according to adminis- trators.
Creflo Dollar Blames The Devil For Jet Critics
Creflo Dollar isn’t giving up his dream of having his own $65 million private jet and you can’t make him.
Instead of accepting the idea that asking his congregation for donations so that he could pur- chase a G650 jet was tacky, he called out his detractors during a recent sermon. TheRoot.com reports that he took time to fire back at those who criticized him for trying to take up a collection for the jet.
Dollar drew tons of side-eye for the campaign, but he made it clear that he was holding onto his belief that he’ll eventually get the jet.
“I can dream as long as I want to. I can believe God as long as I want to,” Dollar told his congregation last Sunday. “If I want to believe God for a $65 million plane, you cannot stop me. You cannot stop me from dreaming. You can’t stop me from dreaming. I’m gon’ dream until Jesus comes.”
Without
directly
calling his
critics evil,
he implied
that they
were being
used by
the Enemy
to keep the
Gospel from being spread and kill hope.
However, Dollar urged peo- ple to hold tight to their dreams. In his case, it would be a private jet that he can’t afford on his own. “Don’t dream about what you can have. Dream about what the devil says you can’t have,” he said. “You can- not stop, and you cannot curse what God has blessed.”
BTW, if you thought a $65 million jet was an outrageous request, Dollar promised to dream bigger. He told his flock that if they ever find life on an- other planet, he’ll take up a col- lection for a $1 billion rocket.
Cornel West was recently put on blast by his longtime friend, Micheal Eric Dyson. Now he is under fire by nu- merous Jewish or- ganizations.
