USF Foundation To Host Kente Awards Luncheon
    The Joyce Russell Kente Awards and Scholarship Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, 11 a. m. in the Marshall Stu- dent Center Ballroom on the main campus of the Univer- sity of South Florida.
DR. CARSON COPELAND ...Keynote Speaker
The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Copeland Carson, a seasoned senior leader in the social sector whose experi- ence has helped improve the lives of millions, regionally and internationally. For the last decade, she was Presi- dent of Copeland Carson &
Associates, where she pro- vided strategy, program and evaluation services to corpo- rate, foundation, nonprofit, and government clients in the U. S., Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and Brazil.
In 2011, Dr. Carson founded Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) as an annual, global celebration of African- descent giving, recognized by the United Nations. Expand- ing each year, the BPM civic engagement and awareness campaign occurs online and in communities with local and global dimensions. Pri- mary aims of BPM are in- forming, involving, inspiring and investing in Black phil- anthropic leadership to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all its forms.
The luncheon will honor Mr. Robert P. Blount, III as the Joyce Russell Kente Awards Com-
munity Leader and Dr. Ernest Boger as the Joyce Russell Kente Alumni Award recipient.
The luncheon will also celebrate the academic ac- complishments of scholar- ship recipients for the Africana Studies Travel Scholarship, Black Faculty Staff Association Endowed Scholarship, Dr. Israel “Ike” Tribble, Jr. Endowed Schol- arship, and the Ruth and Jerry Bell Endowed Scholar- ship.
Dr. Ernest P. Boger, a native of Tampa, is the Uni- versity of South Florida’s first Black graduate. He earned his MBA from the University of North Texas, received Doctoral credits in Interna- tional Management from Nova Southeastern Univer- sity and earned the Doctor of Management (DMgt.) as a Sodexho USA Corporate Uni- versity Fellow, via the Cana- dian School of Management-Revans Uni-
