JANICE LONDON ...President
In celebration of March being National Women His- tory Month, the Hillsborough County Chapter of The Charmettes, Inc., sponsored their annual “Sparkling Pink Cancer Survivors Luncheon.” The well-supported event was held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at St John Progressive M. B. Church in the Life Cen- ter.
The luncheon was held in honor of those who have sur- vived their struggles with can- cer and are continually living a happier life.
After dining on a lovely lunch, Charmette Jacque- line Wilds introduced the speaker, Minister Josephine Brodie Hub- bard, who herself is a cancer survivor. Minister Hub- bard kept the audience’s un- divided attention as she told her story of the struggles she went through as a victim of this dreadful disease.
Also, on program was Ms. Linda Paige, former staff member of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Ms. Paige encouraged the ladies to con- tinually visit their doctors on a regular schedule, stay on their medication, and pay close attention to their nutri- tion, as it played an important part in their continual recov- ery.
Charmettes Joyce Austin and Corlis McIntyre ex- tended special recognition to the survivors, for the strug- gles, efforts, and strength they displayed in conquering this destructive disease. Each of the ladies received a gift bag from the Charmettes, as well a beautifully styled wig of their choice and color.
Cancer research is the main focus of The Charmettes, Inc., nationally, as well as the organization’s national project. Locally, the Hillsborough County Chapter
worked closely with the com- mittee.
