Rev. Dr. W. James Favorite Is Retiring As Pastor Of Beulah Baptist Church
BY MONIQUE STAMPS Sentinel Feature Writer
After over twenty-five years at the helm of Beulah Baptist Church, the Reverend Dr. W. James Favorite has decided to retire.
Dr. Favorite plans on fully enjoy- ing his retirement. He laughs when he says ‘he is going fishing and enjoying the slower pace.’ However, he plans on being available to the new pastor for guidance as well.
Pastor Favorite vows that as long as he is able, he will continue to assist and guide the new pastor and the church. He will continue saving souls for the Kingdom of God.
When asked what his greatest ac- complishment has been, Dr. Favorite says the most fulfilling and proudest

accomplishment is the number of souls that have been saved under his leader-
ship and guidance.
The pastor’s vision has always been
to train members to become disciples, doing Godly work and while being grateful to God. He wants people to continue to see his testimony of Chris- tianity in his walk and in his talk.
When looking for a new pastor, Rev. Favorite says that the best can- didate will understand that the church is not just a place for preaching, it’s a place for teaching. The new pastor will step into the role of most Godly teacher in the role of Senior Pastor.
Since its founding in 1865, Beulah Baptist Church taught free men and women to read, write and vote. Today, the church continues to educate the congregation and community on mat- ters important in the African American community.
Dr. Favorite was born in Louisiana and is a graduate of South- ern University, earning both bachelor and master’s degrees. He attended the Virginia Seminary and College of Lynchburg, Virginia, where he earned both Bachelor of Arts in Religion in 1985 and a Master of Divinity in Theol- ogy in 1987.
In June 1995 he earned the Doctor of Ministry Degree.
Dr. Favorite is married to Dr. Ann Fuller Favorite. The couple has two adult children.
Pastor Favorite’s Retirement Dinner is September 28, 2019, and his last sermon will be on Sunday, Septem- ber 29, 2019.
Please inquire at the church if you would like to attend either event.
