FORMER CITY COUNCILWOMAN GWEN MILLER HONORED
On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, former City Councilwoman Gwen Miller received the prestigious Josephine Howard Stafford Award. The award presentation by the City of Tampa was in honor of Women’s History Month. This year’s theme was “Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives.” Mrs. Miller was the first African- American woman elected to serve on City Council, and served the residents of District 5 for 8 years. She was also the first African-American woman elected as an At-Large Councilwoman and served an additional 8 years. Joining Mrs. Miller (2nd from left) as she accepted the honor are: Sonja Little, Chief Financial Officer, City of Tampa; Frances Henriquez, last year’s recipient, who presented the award to Mrs. Miller, and Shirley Foxx-Knowles, City Clerk.
