Ladies Of Purple Passion Preparing For Holiday Event
Young Ambassadors Honored At Awards Ceremony
Students recognized at the Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful Annual Awards Ceremony are: Michael Harris, Mitchell Lehman, Anna Nelson, Hunter Owens, Jalen Ray, Ricardo Watson, Wyatt Farrior, Jorge Garcia, Aaron Webb, Pierre Alsint, and Matthew Hernandez.
   The Ladies of Purple Passion are putting the final touches on their holiday event, which will be held Friday, December 22, 2017, 8 p. m. – 12 midnight.
The “2017 Christmas Bash” will be held at the American Le- gion Hall, 3910 W. Kennedy Blvd. Entertainment will be by DJ Lady D.
Join the Ladies for some Christmas Cheer, and don’t forget your red and white attire.

Tampa Native Participates In Military Event
Recently, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful held their Annual Awards Breakfast. During the breakfast, eleven stu- dents from throughout Hills- borough County were recognized and presented scholarships. The event took place on December 6th.
Eleven Hillsborough County Public School stu- dents, referred to as Youth Ambassadors received schol- arships ranging from $500 to $2,000. The scholarships can be used at any accredited college or university.
Pierre Alsint, a senior at Hillsborough High School said, “Volunteer service should not only be a require- ment it should be a way of life,” Pierre has been volun- teering for KTBB since the fifth grade with Men of Vision, a Tampa-based men- toring organization for young males from elemen- tary through high school.
This year, Pierre took a more active leadership role and led cleanup projects dur- ing the Hurricane Relief ef- forts.
Plant High School senior Matthew Hernandez has volunteered with KTBB for the past 4 years and received this year’s highest scholar- ship award.
Hernandez said, “Being in a leadership role with
KTBB has offered me the op- portunity to meet people who make a difference in the community.”
He is a member of the Youth Advisory Council and has accumulated more than 110 hours of community service through KTBB alone.
Mikael Harris is a senior at Tampa Bay Technical High School, in the Nursing Program. He plans to com- bine his passion for helping people and football to pursue a career in sports medicine.
Mitchell Lehman is a graduating senior at Straw- berry Crest High School. He currently has a 5.78 cumula- tive GPA, and hopes to at- tend either Florida Polytechnic or University of Central Florida as a Com- puter Engineering major.
A member of the Youth Advisory Council, Anna Nelson is a senior at New- some High School. She plans to attend Florida State Uni- versity to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering. She has a cumulative GPA of 5.78.
Plant High School student Hunter Owens plans to major in Finance and Eco- nomics after graduation. He became a Youth Ambassador for Keep Tampa Bay Beauti- ful last summer.
Jalen Ray will be among
the Jefferson High School graduating class. He plans to continue his education at the University of South Florida. Jalen is a member of Men of Vision and volunteers with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful through that organization.
Joining Jalen as a Jeffer- son High School upcoming graduate is Ricardo Wat- son. Ricardo will attend Florida State University as a Biology major. A member of Men of Vision, he took part in the cleanup after Hurri- cane Irma.
Plant High School student Wyatt Farrior currently has a 4.6 cumulative GPA. He plans to attend the Uni- versity of Florida with a focus on Business or Eco- nomics. He is president of the Plant Outdoorsmen Al- liance Club.
Jorge Garcia currently has a 5.5 cumulative GPA at Hillsborough High School. He plans to attend the Uni- versity of Florida and major in Journalism and Media Production. He is the presi- dent of the Environmental Awareness Club.
Aaron Webb is a senior at Brooks Debartolo Colle- giate High School. His future plans include attending Bethune-Cookman Univer- sity, where he will major in Nursing.
