1st Annual Holiday Smiles Community Service Event Held
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Last Friday, three dentists and the entire team at a local office provided dental service to 30 residents in the Tampa Bay Area. The residents re- ceived cleanings, limited ex- aminations, and extractions without cost to them.
The Tomlinson Dental Of- fice, 3911 North Boulevard, is usually closed on Fridays. So, Friday was the perfect day to host the event.
The event, which will be of- fered each year, was the “First Annual Holiday Smiles Community Service Event.” It was the result of a partner- ship between Dr. Angela Tomlinson, of Tomlinson Dental and Superintend- ent Charles Davis, Senior Pastor of College Hill Church of God in Christ.
Dr. Tomlinson was as- sisted by Dr. Gail McDon- ald-Cheng, and her daughter, Dr. Lorraine Tomlinson in coordinating the event and providing the

services.
A veteran in her field, Dr.
Tomlinson has been a practicing dentist for more than 30 years. During this time, she has served on many mission trips to Ja- maica in an effort to give back to her native land. Now, she is giving back to the com- munity in which she lives and practices.
As a longtime Tampa resi- dent, she wanted to find a way to further serve an un-

derserved community here as well. After sharing the idea with her practicing as- sociates, Dr. McDonald- Cheng and Dr. Lorraine Tomlinson, together, they coordinated the “First An- nual Holiday Smiles Com- munity Service Event.”
“I was happy to provide service to my surrounding community. I’m looking for- ward to next year’s event and hope to engage more peo- ple,” she said.
Her goal is to identify new ways to consistently serve the community. The services were valued at $6,000.
Superintendent Davis
said, “I think it was very, very kind of the Tomlinson Den- tal Office that they would offer free dental service to people who needed it, but couldn’t afford it. The people really felt good about it.”
Superintendent Davis
further said that the dental office allowed him to select
the participants. He an- nounced it in church and ex- tended an invitation to other churches and organizations.
The goal was to provide service to about 30 people. However, a few others called and were provided the serv- ice as well.
“It was a very good Christ- mas gift from them to the community and I was thank- ful that I was a participant in it,” Superintendent Davis said.
