 BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
A high school sophomore will get the opportunity of a lifetime this summer. She will be attending the Ringling College of Art And Design Summer PreCollege Program. The program is from June 24th to July 21, 2018 in Sarasota.
Taylor Young, a student at Sunlake High School in Land O’Lakes, received a full scholarship worth $6,000 to attend the PreCol- lege Program.
In addition to honing her skills in art, Taylor hopes to also learn about the business side of art. She’s looking to have a career as an illus- trator
According to family members, Taylor has been ‘doodling’ since she was a toddler. Her doodling turned into art, which became her hobby. As her interests grew in art,
so did her skills and participation in a variety of art exhibit or presenta- tions.
Having recently been inducted into the National Art Honor Society, Taylor has received numerous awards: first place, 2017 and 2018, Jack and Jill Teen Art Contest; art- work featured in Urban Girlz Mag- azine; Award Of Excellence, 2018 K-12 Student Art Assessment and Virtual Exhibition, presented by the Florida Art Education Association; and 2018 “Best of Show” winner in the Modern Moose Art Contest.
Taylor has also received several awards through her school: 2017 Congressional Art Contest Winner; Sunlake High School PTA Reflec- tions Art Contest winner, 2017- 2018; artwork on the cover of Sunlake Review 2017; second place in the Suicide Prevention Art Con- test, 2017; and she earned first place in at the Pasco County Fair in
2015.
With just 2 months before she’ll
be attending the camp, Taylor says she’s excited about the opportunity to share this time with other stu- dents as she learns.
Taylor is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor (Tia) Young. Her grandparents are: Mr. and Mrs. John (Joyce) Austin and the late Fred Young and the late Tossie Matos.
Taylor, 16, was recently inducted into the National Art Honor Society at Sunlake High School.
