With the nationwide p r o t e s t against police brutality still at the forefront of most cities’ agendas, several Tampa police officers were injured in two separate incidents answer- ing calls.
The first incident happened on Friday when officers responded to a call attempting to find a vic- tim after a report of gunfire.
According to Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan, officers were dispatched to the area of N. 15th Street and E. 26th Av- enue around 1 a. m. When the officers arrived at the scene, they were met by a large crowd who reportedly blocked the four intersections entering and exit- ing the area.
The officers said the crowd became aggressive when the of- ficers attempted to locate a vic- tim. The group surrounded the officers, threw bottles and glass,

and jumped on vehicles.
One officer was hit in the
head and received a small lacer- ation. He was treated and re- leased at a local hospital. Another officer was hit with a glass bottle in the back of the head.
Police arrested Aaron Lamar Brown and charged him with resisting with violence, resisting without violence, failure to obey a lawful order and violation of probation.
2nd Incident
Early Monday, officers were dis- patched twice to the 7-11 Store at the intersection of Hillsbor- ough Avenue and Nebraska Av- enue in reference to shoplifting.
When they arrived, the sus- pect had left the scene. At 2:15 a. m., officers responded to the lo- cation for a third time. The first officer on scene attempted to ar- rest the suspect.

However, the suspect be- came violent and allegedly tried to take the officer’s service weapon. The man struck the of- ficer several times in the face.
When backup officers arrived at the scene, the suspect contin- ued to resist with violence until he was taken into custody.
The injured officer was iden- tified as Officer Charles Bourne, an 8-year veteran with the department. He received several cuts and abrasions to his face. He was treated for his in- juries.
The suspect has been identi- fied as 36-year-old Christo- pher Royal. He was charged with 2 counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence, depriv- ing officer of means of protec- tion or communication and trespassing.

Juneteenth was not a day of celebration for some, but a day that they learned that they are being charged with felony crimes.
Hillsborough State Attor- ney Andrew Warren an- nounced on Friday, that he has filed the first set of felony charges against people involved in alleged rioting and looting on the nights of May 30 and 31.
Warren states, “Make, no mistake, these are criminals who are exploiting the opportu- nity to commit crimes. These are different than the people protesting that we’ve seen.”
The 11 defendants are charged with a total of 15 felony crimes, including burglary, ri- oting, battery on a law enforce- ment officer, and cocaine possession.
The State Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute 67 people who were unlawfully arrested while peacefully protesting.
“If you’re out to peacefully protest, you can expect support

from our community. But if you’re out to hurt, destroy, or steal — you can expect to be held accountable under the law,” State Attorney Warren said.
The defendants are accused of actively looting or attempt- ing to break into numerous businesses in the Hillsborough Avenue and University areas of Tampa and Temple Terrace. More than 40 businesses were looted, set afire or broken into.
According to reports, more charges are expected against others as the State Attorney’s Office continues to review the evidence and more than 130 ar- rest reports
Those who have been charged are: Cornelius Allen, Marquette Allen, Vardis Barker, Julian Frances Cala, Sylvester Carmickal, Freddie Lee Dennard, Corey Gee, Chana Majae King, Luis Reyes Torres, Lonnell Daeon West, and Terry L. Zukowski, Jr..
     Family Now Says Black Man Found
Hanging in Tree Died by Suicide
A Black man found hanging from a tree in California last month died by suicide, his fam- ily said in a statement. The body of Malcolm Harsch, 38, was discovered in Victorville 10 days before another black man, Robert Fuller, was found dead from a hanging 50 miles away. His family initially resis- ted the idea that Harsch had taken his own life and called for further police investigation but new evidence has changed their minds. “Unfortunately, it seems he did take his own life.
