MRS. LILLIAN PERRY BRADDY SIMMONS
Lillian, affectionately known as “Redd,” was born on April 21, 1936, in Dukes, FL to the parent- age of Alton and Mable Perry. She was the oldest of two daugh- ters.
On Friday, June 19, 2020, the Prince of Peace strolled through His garden and chose our beloved flower - LILLIAN PERRY BRADDY SIMMONS - to accom- pany Him on her journey home! Lillian had fulfilled her earthly- commitments; therefore, it was time for her to rest.
She was a long-time member of Allen Temple AME Church; a 4th generation of AME and a 2nd generation of Allen Temple AME Church. Lillian was a devout Christian who sincerely loved the Lord and was an active member in the church. She first joined Allen Temple AME at the tender age of ten during a church re- vival, and later baptized under the pastorage of Rev. R. J. Blaine. She was a past member of the Steward Board, the Trustee Board, the Pulpit Aid Board and the Don’t You Worry Club. Prior to her homegoing, she was a long-time member of the Choir Number One, later known as Gospel Chorus and the Senior Adult Ministry.
Lillian was also very active within the community. She was a member of the 50 and Fabulous Club at Fair Oaks Community Center; Vice President of Doug Williams Fan Club.
Lillian undoubtedly dis- played her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grand- children and her adopted grand- children. She took great pride in spending quality time with her family and friends and would do anything for them. Lillian adored sports, had a passion for shopping, an interest in traveling and just basically enjoyed living life. She was well-known for her infamous walk and her unselfish- ness of gift giving; not to mention her witty and feisty humor.
While Lillian’s mother worked in Miami, FL, Lillian moved to Gainesville, FL to com- plete her education in Alachua County Public Schools System. While in Gainesville, she gradu- ated from Lincoln High School, got married and was blessed with three loving children: her sons, Ronald Simmons (deceased), John Simmons and daughter, Charlotte Simmons. Years later she relocated to Tampa, FL and rejoined Allen Temple AME Church under the pastorage of Rev. H. McDonald Nelson. Lil- lian met her lifelong partner and soulmate Julius Braddy and was blessed with two additional
daughters: Gail Braddy and Veronica Pascoe.
During her early years, Lillian was the first Black waitress em- ployed at the S. H. Kress & Com- pany in 1965 after the “Sit Ins.” Her passion for children and love of education prompted her to seek employment with Roosevelt Valdez Daycare. She attended Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Early Child- hood Education. She was em- ployed with the Hillsborough County Head Start Program as a teacher until her retirement. After her retirement, Lillian began working with the New York Yan- kees and the Tampa Bay Bucca- neers. She was still employed during the time of her death.
