Woman In Stolen Car Upset With Treatment By Police
Deputy Charged
A 23-year-old woman stopped by police is upset be- cause the officer pulled his service revolver. The incident took place last Thursday.
Ms. Joneshia Wilker- son was driving a Nissan Al- tima when it was pulled over by Tampa Police. The vehicle had been reported stolen by Hertz Rental Car Company.
Ms. Wilkerson said the officer pulled his service weapon, stood behind the door of his vehicle, and or- dered her and her passenger to freeze and show their hands.
The officer returned his gun to the holster four min- utes later when his backup ar- rived. Ms. Wilkerson and her passenger were removed from the vehicle and hand- cuffed. However, no charges were filed in the case.
Ms. Wilkerson, a mem- ber of the U. S. Army, had just returned home from deploy- ment and had borrowed the car from an acquaintance. She told police she did not know the car had been reported stolen.
Ms. Wilkerson said, “I

   MS. JONESHIA WILKERSON
feel like something needs to happen to the Tampa PD offi- cer who held that gun on me for four minutes. The Tampa PD are bullies, and the way they treat people is bad.”
Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said the officer did everything correctly. He further said the officer was right to pull the car over and that in some cases, suspects in stolen cars can become vio- lent.
The incident was filmed by the dashcam as well as a tele- phone inside the vehicle Ms. Wilkerson was driving.
Ms. Wilkerson has also created a gofundme page,
TAMPA POLICE OFFICER
stating that she needs to move because of the incident.
She stated on the go- fundme page, “@tampapd posted me on social media with my address, full name, DOB and phone number! I have gotten numerous calls of harassment people are calling me the N word saying I could’ve died and they’re all calling private! So THANK YOU @Tampapd you not only pointed a gun at me but you gave social media ALL OF MY INFORMATION! I don’t feel safe at home. My phone num- ber and identity has been compromised. Why can’t you all just leave me ALONE!!!!!”
Early Monday, the Hills- borough County Sheriff’s Of- fice arrested one of their deputies. He was charged with battery on a Plant City officer.
According to police, the two had an altercation shortly before 1 a.m.
Deputy Ivan Moreno
encountered a Plant City po- lice officer while sitting in the backyard of a home on the 2000 block of Walden Woods Drive, in Plant City.
The officer was reportedly searching for a runaway juve- nile and was using his flash- light to search behind several properties. Moreno, 33, yelled at the unknown officer to turn the light off. The offi- cer continued searching the area, leading Moreno to con- tinue yelling at the officer to turn off his flashlight.
The officer used the flash- light to illuminate his badge and agency-issued uniform, identifying himself as a Plant City police officer. Moreno advanced towards the officer, bumping shoulders with him and attempting to engage in a physical altercation.
According to the officer, Moreno appeared to be in- toxicated at the time of the in- cident. The officer arrested
DEPUTY IVAN MORENO
Moreno for battery on a lawenforcement officer and resisting an officer without vi- olence.
Hillsborough County
Sheriff Chad Chronister
said, “No one is above the law. Battery on an officer, even if it’s coming from another law enforcement officer, is com- pletely unacceptable. This is an incident that should never have escalated to the level of physical violence. We do not condone the actions of this deputy, and he has been placed on administrative leave as we work through the details of this investigation.”
Moreno has been em- ployed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since 2016. He has no prior Internal Affairs investigations.
