District 5 Elected Officials Test Positive For Coronavirus
  Interns To Become
Better Employees
Two elected officials that represent the Black Commu- nity have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Tampa City Council mem- ber Orlando Gudes and School Board member Tamara Shamburger have both been diagnosed with the virus. Their cases were an- nounced in a release by the Hillsborough County Black elected officials who stated that this should serve as “a wake up call.”
Councilman Gudes was elected last year, replacing term-limited councilman, Frank Reddick. His district covers East Tampa, parts of West Tampa and Seminole Heights and downtown.
He is a retired police officer and has been very active during the pandemic and the recent protests. He has been very vocal during council meetings in recent months about getting adequate coronavirus testing in poorer, minority neighbor- hoods in his district.
According to reports, City Council meeting was canceled Thursday (June 18th) after chairman Guido Maniscalco said some city staff had been exposed to the virus.
The Urban League of Hillsborough County (ULHC) is both committed to and compelled by its Mission Statement to forge partnerships in order to serve more of our targeted population within our County.
Last Friday (June 19th), the CDC of Tampa gave a four- hour period of instruction designed to help Summer Interns to be better and more productive employees.
The ULHC’s gratitude goes out to Ernest Coney and his team for showing the Not-For-Profit Organizations of our County how to maximize efforts for more and better results.
