In Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his tremendous accomplishments during the civil rights move- ment , CDC of Tampa, Inc. (Corporation to Develop Com- munities of Tampa) will host a "Paint for Peace - a Commu- nity Anti-Violence Movement" on Saturday, January 21, 2017,9a.m.-4p.m.atAl Barnes Park, 2902 N. 32nd St., Tampa, 33605.
"We are excited to see how everyone expresses their thoughts on anti-violence in the community and apprecia- tion of great efforts made by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on non-violence. We want the community to know that we never will forget the names of your loved ones," said
Ernest M. Coney, Jr., Pres-	lence to come out, bring pic-
ident /CEO of CDC of Tampa, Inc.
Families can paint their loved one's name and any statements of anti-violence on tree stumps around the park. Butterflies will be re- leased as names are called out so that they will never be for- gotten.
CDC of Tampa, Inc. is hosting this event in partner- ship with Hillsborough County Safe and Sound. Five years ago, CDC of Tampa lost John Singletary, one of its students in its Youth Leader- ship Program and a junior at Tampa Bay Tech to a drive-by shooting. Three years ago at Al Barnes Park, two young peo- ple were shot. Over the years, the community has experi- enced gun violence.
CDC of Tampa is asking those in the community who have lost love ones due to vio-
tures and paint the names of your loved ones. “Paint for Peace” will culminate with volunteers and families pro- viding brief presentations on their artistic rendition of anti- violence and how to promote public safety in the commu- nity. Free food will be pro- vided.
The Martin Luther King Day of Service, A Day On, Not a Day Off was created to pay respect to the Civil Rights Leader and challenge Ameri- cans to take civil action and participate in Volunteer serv- ices that bridge barriers, cre- ate solutions and move the nation closer to Dr. King's vision.
