Tampa Group To Present Free Gospel Concert
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Sunday, April 30th, Tampa’s own, T. Pooh McClary will host a gospel concert. The event will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church of Highland Pines, 4711 E. 21st Avenue, beginning at 6 p.m.
McClary is a fixture in the gospel arena, having been per- forming in the Tampa commu- nity for more than 20 years. And, in most instances, his concerts coincide with events taking place.
However, McClary said, “This is just a free concert. We don’t have a theme and it is free and open to the public. The doors open at 5 p.m., and seating is limited. So, we are asking that you get there

early.”
Some of the groups slated
to perform include Shawn Brown And Da Boys, of St. Louis, Missouri; the New Christianaires, of Haines City, Pork Chop and The
Fellas, and Pooh & The In- spirations, and many other groups.
McClary said he is bring- ing new talent into the area to add new flavor to the concert. “We are inviting everyone in the community to come out and enjoy this free gospel con- cert.”
McClary launched his gospel more than 20 years ago with the group Pooh & The Young Inspirations. As he matured, he changed the name of the group to Pooh & The Inspirations.
McClary said the group sings original songs members of the group wrote. He and Sedric Floyd, who was a member of Pooh & the Young Inspirations, are two of the writers.
Current members of Pooh & The Inspirations are: T. Pooh McClary, Ms. Mimi Jones, Clarence Gunter, Andrew Holder, Joe Williams, Johnny Jenk- ins, Eugene Atkins, Jer- maine Smith, Marlo Kelley, Andrew Holder, and Cicero Carr.
“We are just inviting every- one to come out and have a good time for no special rea- son,” McClary said.
Kameron Hayes was among the students from Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, who attended the Georgia Democratic State Dinner last Thursday, April 20th, with Keynote Speaker Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California.
Kameron, a 6th grader, is the son of Atty. Kasmyene Hayes, Atlanta, and Atty. Ian Nesbeth, Tallahassee. His grandparents are James and Gwen Hayes of Tampa and Pansey Young of Miami.
