Police Continue Search For Missing Elderly Man
South Tampa Chamber, TPD Active Shooter Seminar Held Recently
Law enforcement is asking for public assistance in locat- ing a missing adult. The man was reported missing on Sat- urday.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, 82-year-old Maynell Benton Scott was reported missing from the Belvedre Commons Assisted Living Facility, 1513 W. Fletcher Avenue, of Tampa. He has been missing from the facility since 6:30 p.m., Friday.
Scott is described as being a white male, 6’ tall and weigh- ing 200 pounds. Scott was last seen wearing a light blue dress shirt, gray dress pants, and he also wears glasses.
Scott left the facility on foot in an undetermined direction. He suffers from Dementia and

The South Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the Tampa Police Department(TPD) part- nered with other agencies to host an “Active Shooter Semi- nar” on last Thursday at Stageworks Theater.
This seminar, along with others scheduled for St. Pe- tersburg, were scheduled to help business owners and civilians to deal with incidents similar to what happened in Orlando.
South Tampa Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, Kelly Flannery, said TPD showed videos of shootings, and instructed those in atten- dance of how to respond, what safety measures they can take, and finished with a question and answer period.
“We want to teach people whattodoiftheyareinan emergency situation. Business owners and managers at- tended the seminar, and ad- vised those in attendance on how to prepare their employ- ees to deal with unexpected situations.
“We wanted to do this weeks ago, but after the incident in Orlando, a sense of urgency was reached.”
Flannery said in Tampa, a business with 20 or more em- ployees can get TPD to come out and do a seminar, com- plete with consultations.
“We want to create a sense of awareness and show people how to react in given situa- tions.
“The seminars are open to the general public, but busi- ness owners are the target group.”
Orientation Planned For New Teachers
Community Encouraged To Attend Local Small Business Fair
Teachers who are new to Hillsborough County Public Schools are invited to attend New Teacher Orientation dur- ing either a 2 or 4-day session, Monday-Thursday, July 18-21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Arm- wood High School, 12000 U. S. Highway. 92, Seffner.
Superintendent Jeff Eakins, School Board Mem- bers, and district staff will greet and welcome teachers on Monday, July 18, at 1 p.m.
More than 600 participants are expected to take part in the orientation. This year the New Teacher Orientation takes on a new look, in response to the needs of our teachers and their
feedback from previous years. The first two days, required of all new hires, will aim to fa- miliarize teachers with the dis- trict’s mission, vision, and goals through a comprehen- sive induction model. Days 3 and 4 will be required of be- ginning teachers and will in- clude CHAMPS/Discipline in the Secondary Classroom training to assist teachers with establishing classroom culture during the first few weeks of school. Experienced teachers are invited to register for vari- ous courses offered during Days3and4atourmain
training facility.
More than 30 businesses will participate in “Shop Local Tampa Bay,” an initiative to encourage the community to support small businesses. Vendors with products and goods ranging from beauty and health to jewelry will showcase items for sale in the hopes of introducing their businesses to a new customer base.
Karin Davis-Thompson,
the event’s organizer, said she hopes the community will come out and support the ven- dors. The event will take place on Saturday, August 6.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” Ms. Davis-Thompson said.

Eastern Heights Neighborhood Association And Crime Watch
On Thursday, July 21st, the Eastern Heights Neighborhood Association and Crime Watch will be meeting at Williams Park, 4363 East Osborne Avenue, at 6:30 p.m.
The guest speaker at this meeting will be Dr. Shawn Robin- son, Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus Pres- ident. He will speak on the mix of offerings at the various HCC campuses, and also he will focus on the Ybor City campus.
Mr. Jr. Reed, a business advisor will speak on the topic of finances. Refreshments will be served.
Mr. Samuel L. Mobley, Sr. is President of the Eastern Heights Neighborhood Association and Crime Watch.
