Makes No Excuses
In His Postgame
Press Conference
The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers fell to the Houston Tex- ans at home Saturday, 23-20, bringing their four-game win- ning-streak to a halt and drop- ping them to 7-8 with one game left to play.
The story of the day, of course, was the four intercep- tions by quarterback Jameis Winston, who brought his league-leading total up to 28. Depending on what happens next week in the season finale against the Atlanta Falcons, Winston could end up throwing for over 5,000 yards with 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
While Winston did have to play Saturday’s game with a fractured thumb and without his top two receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, the quarterback would not make excuses in his postgame presser.
To his credit, Winston took responsibility for the

turnovers. And, as you can tell from his tone and body lan- guage, nobody seems more frustrated about his perform- ance than him.
The good news for Win- ston is that the Buccaneers are planning to bring him back in 2020. But, correcting his turnover problem will be priority one in the offseason for Arians and Byron Left- wich. You can have the most talented team in the league, but if your quarterback throws 30 interceptions in one sea- son, you aren’t getting to the playoffs.
ODELL BECKHAM, JR.
Odell Beckham, Jr. has given his strongest signal yet that he intends to stick it out with the Cleveland Browns.
On Wednesday, Beckham joked that he’d spoken to CFL teams about playing there be- fore stating that he wasn’t going anywhere and would stay in Cleveland.
This will not be enough to stop the weeks of speculation we’ve seen since it came out that Beckham spent the month of October asking rival teams to come get him. It is, however, something the Browns will want to hear. He still has four years left on his contract, and the Browns did not trade for him to have him as a short-term rental, even if there’s been a bit of drama as a result of his presence.
Four-star athlete E.J. Smith chose to not go to the same school where his fa- mous father played.
Smith, the No. 3 running back in the country and the No. 21 prospect in the state of Texas, signed with Stan- ford on Wednesday. He picked the Cardinal over Georgia, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Florida, the school where his dad Emmitt played collegiately.
Smith signed in a cere- mony at his high school, Dal- las Jesuit, with his parents by his side. He revealed his
choice by picking the Stan- ford hat off the table from among the other schools in a ceremony that was broadcast on ESPN2.
As E.J. wore the Stan- ford hat, Emmitt jokingly grabbed the Florida hat from the table and put it on.
E.J. Smith is part of a top-25 class for the Cardinal as it looks to bounce back from a dreadful and injury- plagued 4-8 season in 2019. Smith, who wore his dad’s No. 22 at Dallas Jesuit, played both running back and receiver in high school.
