Last week, a local high school learned who would become its next principal. The Hillsborough County School Board approved Mrs. Tiatasha (Tia) Brown to become the leader at Middleton High School.
Mrs. Brown, who began her new duties on Monday, was the principal at Shields Middle School.
On Thursday, February 28th, at 6 p.m., there will be a “Meet and Greet” to intro- duce Mrs. Brown to mem- bers of the community. The event, hosted by the Middle- ton PTSA and Alumni, will take place in the Media Cen- ter.

Brown graduated from Armwood High School. She continued her education at
the University of South Florida, where she earned both her Bachelor of Science Degree and her Master’s De- gree. She is currently work- ing on a Specialist Degree in turnaround school leader-
shipM. rs. Brown said, “I have 21 years experience with the Hillsborough County School District, with the last 11 years as an admin- istrator. When I think of Middleton, I think of it as the legacy of East Tampa. Open- ing in 1934, as a school for African American students, makes Middleton a historical icon for Hillsborough County. As the new leader, and an East Tampa native, I take great pride in this op- portunity, being able to lead in the tradition of many pre- vious great school leaders.”
Mrs. Brown is replacing Dr. Kim Moore, who was recently appointed to the role of School Administrator. She had served in both capacities until Mrs. Brown was se- lected to fill the vacancy.
Mrs. Brown began her career at Lee Elementary School. She then moved to Buchanan Middle School. While at Tomlin Middle School, she was promoted to Assistant Principal for Stu- dent Affairs.
She was promoted to Principal from Assistant Principal after being trans- ferred to Shields Middle School.
Mrs. Brown, who is married and the mother of two daughters, said she looks forward to serving in her new capacity.
