Woods To Play At Valspar Championship, Arnold Palmer Invitational
TIGER WOODS
Tiger Woods announced Friday he will play in the next two PGA TOUR events - this week's Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor at Innisbrook Golf & Resort, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational pre- sented by Mastercard.
The commitment to Valspar is unique, as it will be his tour- nament debut. He has, how- ever, previously played at Innisbrook - at the 1996 JC Penney Mixed Team event when he was paired with former U. S. Women's Amateur cham- pion Kelli Kuehne.
The commitment to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, meanwhile, was expected, given that he's won eight times in 17 starts at Bay Hill. It will be his first start at the event since his last win in 2013.
Deontay Wilder Rallies To Stop Luis Ortiz, Eyes Joshua- Parker Winner
DEONTAY WILDER
Heavyweight world title- holder Deontay Wilder sent a message to the legion of crit- ics who have dogged him for his soft schedule: So how do you like me now?
In a fight that went from sleep-inducing to sensational in the blink of an eye, Wilder retained his title for the sev- enth time, scoring a thunder- ous 10th-round knockout of division boogeyman Luis "King Kong" Ortiz before 14,069 on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Ortiz nearly knocked Wilder out in a brutally one- sided seventh round, but Wilder kept himself together and stormed back for a sensa- tional knockout to set the stage for a potential undis- puted title fight with the win- ner of the three-belt bout between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker on March 31 in Cardiff, Wales.

Tristan Thompson Out With Ankle Sprain
At Sunday night's 90th annual Academy Awards, Kobe Bryant won another trophy, this one for the Oscar in the Best Animated Short category.
Bryant, the retired Los Angeles Lakers star, brought home the golden statue for his contributions to the ani- mated short "Dear Basket- ball," based on a poem he wrote in 2015 announcing his impending retirement from basketball. As executive producer, Bryant accepted his Oscar from "Star Wars'' star Mark Hamill. He shared the award with Dis- ney animator Glen Keane.
"And to Kobe, for writing 'Dear Basketball,' it's a mes- sage for all of us," Keane said during his acceptance speech. "Whatever form your dream may take, it's through passion and perseverance that the impossible is possi- ble."
Bryant, who seemed in disbelief and had to take a deep breath as he repeatedly looked at his Oscar, then de- livered a message.
"I don't know if it's possi- ble," Bryant retorted. "I mean, as basketball players, we are really supposed to shut up and dribble. But I am glad we do a little bit more than that."
He thanked his wife, Vanessa, and his three daughters, naming each of them. He spoke a few words of Italian -- a language he learned as a child growing up in Italy -- and closed by telling them, "You are my in- spiration.''
Among those offering their congratulations via Twitter were Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, Bill Rus- sell and Shaquille O'Neal, Bryant's former Lakers teammate, who admitted, "I'm jealous lol.''
Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson suffered a sprained right ankle in the Cavs' 126-117 loss to the Den- ver Nuggets on Saturday and will miss "multiple games," the team announced Sunday.
Thompson stepped on the heel of a Nuggets player in the first half on Saturday. He went on to play 13 min- utes in the second half -- fin- ishing the game with 12 points and seven rebounds -- but experienced "significant swelling" overnight, accord- ing to the team.
Thompson, who missed 20 games this season because of a left calf muscle injury, is averaging career lows in points (6.3), rebounds (6.5) and minutes (21.7) per game.
Larry Nance, Jr., who will likely start in Thomp- son's place when the Cavs host the Detroit Pistons on Monday, also suffered a

minor injury against the Nuggets.
"I think it was Gary Har- ris ran past me and totally accidental kind of ran into my knee a little bit, hyperex- tended," Nance said. "But it's fine, I was ready to go back in. I just needed to come out, like, 'I'm all right, good, let's go.' Coach [Tyronn] Lue decided to stay with the guys that were in, but I was ready to go."
