Congratulations Grads
Salutatorian Plans To Become Civil Rights Attorney
Congratulations, Jefferson Graduate
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Errdaisha Floyd is one young lady the community should watch. Having been accepted at Columbia Uni- versity, Errdaisha plans to become a Civil Rights Attor- ney.
She began paying more attention to current events after Donald Trump was elected president. And the more she read, the more concerned she became about other people.
One area that has at- tracted her attention is the prison system. “I have seen a lot of people who have gone to prison and how they are affected when they are re- leased.
“I see how they have problems finding housing, employment, getting an edu- cation, and a lot of other dif- ferent issues. I don’t think it is the right way to handle crime. I see the prison sys-

tem more and more hinders their reintegration into soci- ety.”
Errdaisha is graduating as the Salutatorian in the In- ternational Baccalaureate Program at Hillsborough High School. She is also an AP Scholar with Distinction.
She has already begun to prepare for her future career being a Freedom Fellow with the Dream Defenders and a member of the Mayor’s
Youth Leadership Council. When the time arrived for her to choose an institution of higher learning, she se- lected Columbia. “I tried my best, especially while writing my essays. Everyone seemed to think I would get in, but I’m usually harder on myself
than anyone else.”
So in the fall, Errdaisha
will enter Columbia with an unweighted grade point av- erage of 3.9 and a weighted grade point average of 7.9. And although she will enter as a freshman, she also took advantage of the dual enroll- ment program and took some college classes while in high school.
Before leaving for college, Errdaisha plans to visit the beach, which is one of her fa- vorite things, and travel more.
She will also continue to follow Twitter and read sub- missions from people she considers to be interesting.
David Harris will join his classmates on Wednes- day, May 23, 2018, as a grad- uate of Thomas Jefferson High School.
David is a member of Jr. ROTC Air Force, GradNa- tion, DECA, and First Prior- ity. He served as Captain of the Varsity Basketball Team.
David attends Rivers of Life Church.
David plans to major in Entrepreneurial Studies and play basketball at Paul Smith College in the Fall.
David is the son of Ms. Myeesha Harris and the
