Tampa Alumni Chapter Of Kappa Alpha Psi Honors Its Members During Senior Kappa Week
The men of Tampa Alumni of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity honored its members 80 years or older for Senior Kappa Week during the chapter’s May busi- ness meeting. The men were honored for paving the way for the growth and success of the organization and service to the community.
John (Snooky) Willie Daniel, Willie Gray Dixon, Rigoberto (Rigo) Morales Garcia, James Wesley Hog- gard (Hoggy), Ronald C. Hubbard, Clarence Edward Lee and Charles (Chuck) White, were recognized for their achievements in and out of the fraternity.
Kappas worldwide cele- brated its senior members in a week-long affair last month, honoring the legacy and achievements of men that guided the fraternity through 110 years. Tampa Alumni was established in 1928 and is still playing an important role in the community.
Daniel, a graduate of Mid- dleton High, spent nearly 30 years in city government as Deputy Director of the Depart- ment of Administration. When Daniel first started, there were no Black or women with super- visory authority with the fire de- partment or police department. He helped develop policies, pro- grams and operations to inte- grate the City of Tampa’s workforce, which he accom-

plished by the time he retired in 1996.
Daniel and his wife, De- loris are the parents of two chil- dren.
Dixon has spent a lifetime serving others after his Air Force career. He was a band director at Booker T. Washington High, served as an associate at Abe Brown Ministries, an organiza- tion that advocates for the incar- cerated and their families, and is the founder and CEO of COACH Foundation, Inc. a private, not- for-profit organization.
Established in 1981, COACH helps provide stable environ- ments for growth through its Faith-Based Prison Ministry, Housing Program and Helpful Hints Program and has been honored with the Non-Profit of the Year and Tampa Organiza- tion for Black Affairs Unsung Hero Award. Also an author, Dixon’s book ‘Playbook for Life’ is in it’s fifth edition.

Dixon and his wife, Maryse are the parents of six children.
Garcia was an educator in the Hillsborough County Public School System, spending 58 years as principal in adult edu- cation. While a student at Mid- dleton, Garcia was a captain on the basketball team and helped the school win the Florida State Championship in 1951.

Alpha Psi, Garcia is still an ac- tive member of Tampa Alumni and took pride chairing the Transportation Committee and organizing the Kappa Kiddie programs.
Garcia and his wife, Sonja are the parents of two children.
Hoggard is a native of Ahoskie, N. C., and now Tampa Bay resident. Retiring from the United States Army after 23 years, Hoggard spent 20 years as an educator in the Texas and North Carolina school systems. With the fraternity, Hoggard has served as historian, strate- gus, on the board of directors and as Dean of Pledges.
Hoggard is married to Lorraine, and is a senior usher at Without Walls International Church.
Hubbard spent 30 years in the U. S. Air Force before retir- ing as Chief Master Sergeant. Hubbard was a standout in Judo. While stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, Hub- bard was the State of Florida 180-pound champion and was an alternate on the AAU U. S. National Judo Team for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He also taught judo to children and Black Tampa police officers.
He was the pastor of Keeney Chapel United Methodist Church for 13 years before retir- ing in 2018, where he now holds the title of Pastor Emeritus.
With Tampa Alumni, Hub- bard has held the positions of Polemarch, member of the board of directors, hospitality and housing committes as well as Kappa League.

are the parents of two children. Lee worked for 25 years with Honeywell Corporation where he was known as the “Master Negotiator,” working on extensive contracts for the Space Shuttle, space station and many other technical and me- chanical contracts. When it came to high-level negotiations, Lee was the only one who could
speak for Honeywell.
Lee has served the frater-
nity as the local polemarch (president), Keeper of Excheq- uer (treasurer) as well as chaired numerous committees. Lee has been honored as Kappa Man of the Year, won the Polemarch Award and Leadership Award.
Married to Phyllis, the two are the parents of two children. Lee also operates and is a board member for the non-profit Cor- nerstone Kids, whose mission is to reach inner-city kids and as- sist in their educational, spiri- tual and emotional development in a safe, secure and nuturing environment.
White, known affection- ately as ‘Coach White,’ was a local teacher/coach for more than 43 years, more than 26 of those years at Hillsborough Community College, where he was the first coach of any sport offered at the college. Prior to being at HCC, White taught tennis at Hunt Park, then at Jef- ferson High.
He also was a major person- ality in the 1990s and 2000s with the ‘Coach Chuck White Sports Show.’ He and wife, Eloise are the parents of three children.
