Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse - Director Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey direct a fresh new animation straight out of Brooklyn of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) who be- comes the Spider Man of his reality and crosses path with other Spider Counterparts to stop evil villains who want to destroy all reality. Must admit this was excellent. The soundtrack was banging and the action was on point. Should win an Oscar for best animation. Must see for kids and adults. No.1 at box office- $42M U.S./foreign- $20M- (budget-$90M)--Classic -five stars.
Ralph Breaks The Internet - Six years later with the Box office mega-hit ‘Wreck-It- Ralph, Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) and Vanelope (voice by Sarah Silverman) discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure, the Internet. This animation was made for adults. Kids will enjoy, but not understand the sophistication of the Internet. Still worth seeing. A little long, 2hrs/10mins- Made - $155M/ foreign- $130M- (budget- $175M)- ***1/2
Creed II - Under the training of Rocky Balboa ( Sylvester Stallone), light heavyweight contender Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) faces his biggest challenge against Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), son of Russian Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Another Black Director scores a Box Of- fice Hit. Director Steven Caple, Jr. put together a dramatic, action-pack sequel that everyone would enjoy. Screenwriters Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) and Cheo Cooker (Notorious) did a great job bringing out the characters. A must-see for action fans! Made - $106M- U.S. foreign $26M (bud- get- $50M)- ****
Widows - Four Chicago women (Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriquez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erico) with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands (Liam Neeson), take fate into their own hands to save their lives from a violent, debt-collecting drug gang (Brian Henry, Daniel Kaluua-Get Out). Director Steve McQueen put together a well-written crime thriller that might be the best this year. A MUST-SEE for action fans! Made 41M- U.S./foreign- $29M- (budget-$42M)- classic
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) - A chronicle of the years on how the iconic group Queen rose to fame that led to the legendary appearance at the LIVE AID in 1985. Lead singer Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) was one of the best singer, songwriter and performer’s of all-time. Director Bryan Singer did a great job keeping the film all about the music. Made $181M- U.S./ $456M- foreign- (budget- $52M)- ****
Hunter Killer - An Untested submarine captain (Gerard Butler) teams with the U.S. Navy Seals to go on a suicide mission to rescue the Russian president and stop a rogue general from start- ing a World War. Received bad reviews from the critics, but this underwater thriller was action- packed from start to finish. Must see for action fans. Made $15M- U.S./ (budget-N/A)- ***1/2
Halloween (2018) - A revengeful Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is prepared for a final con- frontation with the psycho killer Michael Myers, who has stalked her for four decades. Director David Green did a great job keeping this horror film face-paced and suspenseful. Made - $159M- U.S./ $93 M- foreign- (budget- $10M)- ****
Venom (2018) - TV show host Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) acquires the powers of a symbiote (alien parasite) who releases his alter-ego “Venom” to save Brock’s life. Must-see for marvel fans. Enjoyed it! Made - $212M-U.S./ foreign- $641M. (budget-$100M)- ****
Night School - A successful salesman, Teddy Walker (Kevin Hart) and a group of misfits are forced to attend night school with a fiesty teacher (Tiffany Haddish) in hope they'll pass the GED exam to high school. Produced by St. Pete native Will Packer and directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip) takes you on a journey of Teddy reorganizing his life in a hilarious and entertaining way through education. Must see for laughs. Made-$77M-U.S./ foreign- $25M (budget-$37M)- ****
The Predator (2018) - A group of convicted soldiers heading to prison (Boyd Holbrook, Tre- vante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Jane) and a disgruntled science teacher (Olivia Munn) tries to prevent a super predator (who is hunting other predators) from trying to end the human race. Director Shane Black kept this storyline simple, fun and brutal. Just what you expect from a Predator movie. Enjoyed it! Made -$50M- U.S./ foreign- $77M- (budget- $88M)- ***1/2
Searching - After his 16-year-old daughter Pamela goes missing, a desperate father, David Kim, breaks into her laptop to look for clues to find her. Director Aneesh Chaganty takes you on a ride on how deep you can go with Google search or the power of the internet. Wow! This thriller didn’t get any fanfare, but it’s definitely a MUST SEE!
