Born To Lead In 2015
APRIL IS...
UNBOUND
BY ADAM WILLIAMS
Chains on my legs... Chains on my hands... Chains around my brain...
Unable to truly move up the ladder while I’m binded, one step forward, two steps back only reminds me that I’m still Black, don’t run or you’ll be shot, don’t march because you’ll get caught.
Walk the straight and narrow, you’ll be fine. Keep walking even if they blurring the line. This path has always been dotted, you’re always spotted, always on their radar, always fitting the description, guilty of conviction. This is your affliction who told you to be Black, one step forward, two steps back.
Chained Hands...
Unable to keep your money, good home, good job still broke, that’s funny.
Darkie that’s funny, that’s your fault, you got caught with your hand on your money. You earned it but you owe us our share ...oh life isn’t fair?! You say it as if I care, this thing called greed only applies to you. To me this is capitalism ...racism doesn’t exist and neither does those chains that bind your hands and brings you pain.
Chained Mind...
Free to be anything you want to be, as long as it’s beneath me!
Trapped in a mindset that doesn’t seem it can ever be reset, always in a deficit, mentally, physically and spiritually.
Let’s buy our greatness and wear it on our skin - Clothes, cars, and jewelry can’t conceal this sin. Chained to ideals of shucking and jiving will set us free.
Some still have puppet strings, you’ll never be free, the key was always in front of you the whole time.
Let JESUS be your key and unchain your mind.
After All, It’s Only A Bear!
No, it’s 200 bears, to be exact: black bears that – to the joy of bear hunters – are no longer on an endangered species list. Say hunters’ lobbyists, such bears are no longer threat- ened, well, not by extinction, at least. But what stopped us in our tracks, much like Bambi’s in headlights, was the way Florida’s black ursus majors (bears) found their way onto an expansive wanted list.
Come with us as we review verbatim how Smokey-the- Bear ended up as a candidate for a wall decoration. Accord- ing to news, “About 40,000 people wrote, called or emailed the (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) protesting the proposed (black bear) hunt, and three- fourths opposed it.
But Commissioners . . . chose to side with the hunters clamoring for a chance to pursue a top predator. Conse- quently, despite opposition from 75% of the people who wrote and called, the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Com- mission voted unanimously to bring black bear hunting back, this fall.”
We can imagine what you’re saying. “Gosh, it’s only a bear. Who cares? But what frightened us wasn’t the bear. It was the bearish way certain state representatives ignored their public constituents in favor of their own decisions. It numbed us because we see a pattern in the Florida State- house of public representatives seeming oblivious to any- thing except their own ideas or friendly lobbyists.
True, it was black bears, this time. Will it be healthcare, the next time? By skips and slights of hand, are we seeing state government becoming more and more its own echo? So, who will be the bear, next time?
Yes, 200 Black bears will be shot for sport. Forty thou- sand people clambered against it: “Those people,” a state of- ficial referred to them. Guess who didn’t get heard?
Listen. Instead of Governor Rick Scott wasting taxpayers cash to sue our Federal government for terminating more than one billion dollars in federal funding for low-income patients, we suggest El-Gov. should be keeping his broken promise to accept $51 billion in funding (spread over 10 years) to expand Medicaid insurance coverage for one mil- lion uninsured Floridians (or did someone forget).
Meanwhile, we continue trying to find logic in wanting to accept one billion dollars to pay hospitals for treating poor patients, while refusing $51 billion dollars to keep one mil- lion or more uninsured citizens from showing up in hospital emergency rooms to seek treatment for illnesses that Med- icaid coverage could have handily prevented.
Like Grinchs, Governor Scott and certain legislative bunkies enjoy more than adequate health insurance cover- age at taxpayers’ expense while simultaneously refusing funds from the federal government which would provide healthcare coverage for the indigent.
In fact, prior to 2013, legislators paid less for their insur- ance coverage than state employees.
We don’t know how millions of uninsured Floridians voted in the last election, if they voted at all. However, we hope the ones who did indeed; vote will remember to cast ballots against callous legislators who refused to support ac- cepting Medicaid expansion funds.
Moreover, when and if Governor Scott decides to run for another office, we trust voters will curtail his health insur- ance coverage charade and a string of other frivolous law- suits paid for at taxpayers’ expense. After all, whatever happened to human compassion? Perhaps, it’s on vacation somewhere in the seven hills of Tallahassee?
“When I was a child, my mother said to me: ‘If you become a soldier, you’ll be a General. If you become a monk, you’ll end up as the Pope.’ Instead I became a painter, and wound up as Picasso.”
–Pablo Picasso
Empowered Greetings!
From a child Picasso’s mother instilled in him the underlying thought that he was a leader. No matter what he was to become in life–hewastolead.Asa parent, I too, have worked to instill this same principle in my children. Today, I want to talk to you as if you were my children.
As a momma I would say... No matter what you do in life, there is a place that has been set-aside for you. There is a place that has been prepared for you. There is a place that has your name and your name alone on it.
When God created you, He created you for a desig- nated position - A position of leadership. Don’t refuse to fulfill your destiny by selling yourself short. Stop thinking less of yourself than you were created to be. You were born to lead in the particular area or domain where you are gifted. Like Picasso, you must discover your do- main and lead.
In life, there is a price that you will have to pay to obtain your position. Al-
though you were born to lead, there are some sacri- fices that will need to be made. There is a refinement process that has to take place.
In the words of Dr. Myles Monroe, “The posi- tion is prepared for you, but you have to prepare yourself for that position.”
Preparing to progress in your leadership domain re- quires commitment, time, effort, development and training. Be sure to visit my website and check out monthly empowerment workshops that are available to enhance your develop- ment.
Let’s stay connected. I want to help you develop the leader in you.
