Earlier this week, high school students had the oppor- tunity to take tests needed for graduation. However, with the end of the school year coming to a close, many students are not prepared.
Ross Anderson, Program Manager, Educational Advo- cacy for Hillsborough County School District said, “Gradua- tion is less than 2 months away and we have many students district-wide who still need to pass the state standardized ELL FSA Reading test. Students have the opportunity to earn a concordant score to meet grad- uation requirements by taking the SAT or ACT test.”
On Tuesday, for the first time all seniors who still had not taken the test had an op- portunity to take the test. An- derson said the District paid for the test that parents would otherwise have had to pay.
Yet, he said the students don’t seem to be preparing

themselves for the test. The De- partment of Education is allow- ing the scores of the SAT or ACT test to replace the former FCAT Test.
“If they don’t pass either of these tests, they are not going to receive a diploma. They will receive a Certificate of Comple- tion and that is not going to get them into college,” Anderson said.
“Parents should be aware as well so that they can encourage their children to prepare for the tests.
Seniors have 3 remaining opportunities to get a passing score on the Reading Concor- dant in order to graduate in May 2017. Those dates are
Monday, March 27, Saturday, April 8, and Saturday, May 5, 2017. ”
Retakes of the FSA ELA Reading test will take place on Monday, March 27th.
Preparation classes will be offered at Leary Techni- cal Center, 5410 N. 20th Street, in the auditorium on the following Satur- days: March 25, April 1, April 22, April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20, May 27, and June 3.
The preparation classes will be offered at Leto High School, Room 109, on the following Saturdays: March 25, April 1, April 22, April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20, May 27, and June 3.
The preparation classes for the ACT, SAT, or PERT (Post- secondary Education Readi- ness Test) will be held at Leto High School and Leary Techni- cal Center for those students who still need to earn a concor- dant score in order to graduate, Anderson said.
