East Tampa Middle Magnet School Preparing Olympic Village To Reach Community
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Although Orange Grove Middle Magnet School of the Arts sits in East Tampa, a few blocks off 22nd Street and Lake Avenue, there are many in the Bel- mont Heights community who may not know about the school and what it offers.
Why?
It’s a Magnet School that attracts students from
all zip codes of the county.
“We want people in the community to know that
we are a part of the community,” states Lead Teacher Charmaine Jennings, M.Ed, Ed.S.
The school is planning an event that will get the community to join them at the school on Thursday, April 27, 2017, 5:30-7:30 p. m. Entitled “Olympic Village: Teamwork In Living Color,” the goal of the event is to interact with the residents and business owners -- network.
This event will provide a spectacular showcase of how Orange Grove MMS students learn math, sci- ence, social studies, language arts, and reading through the fine arts.

Students and community members will share and experience different cultures, hands-on activi- ties, games, and sports, Mrs. Jennings explained.
This event is also a school fundraiser to support the 19-year tradition of arts education. Concessions, photo booth, pledge drive donations, sponsorships, volunteers and community partnership contribu- tions directly impact Orange Grove students that come from almost every zip code in Hillsborough County.
“Our Principal, Dr. Shannon Butler, wants the residents to come out and see the campus,” Mrs. Jennings said. There will be a variety of ven- dors, including food trucks, with products and serv- ices, face-painting and games for the children.
“If the residents come out and support the ven- dors, that’s helping the school.
We do have a number of businesses in the area who have partnered with us. But, we’re still looking for more. We would like to request your partnership on this amazing endeavor,” she said.
Orange Grove Middle Magnet School of the Arts is a visual and performing arts school for 6-8th graders.
