Aretha Franklin Ordered By Doctor To Cancel Performances
Aretha Franklin performing in New York.
The Queen of Soul has been ordered by her doctor to cancel a few upcoming dates.
Aretha Franklin’s man- agement team says in a state- ment Friday that Franklin will not perform March 25 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey. That show would have taken place on her 76th birthday.
Franklin also won’t appear April 28 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Or- ganizers say Rod Stewart will
perform as the headliner in- stead.
The statement says the singer has been ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest completely for at least the next two months. It adds that Franklin is “extremely disap- pointed she cannot perform as she had expected and hoped to.”
Last year, Franklin an- nounced her plans to retire, saying she would perform at “some select things.”
The Kardashians Donate $100K To Help Keep Center In Black Community Open
The Kardashians donated $100,000 to the Watts Empower- ment Center.
The Kardashians have a deep connection to L.A., and it manifested itself in a big way Friday when the family res- cued a 24-hour community center that was about to shut its doors because of a lack of funding.
Last year the Kardashian family helped raise money for the Watts Empowerment Cen- ter, but went into their purses again and donated $100,000 to help it remain open.
Additionally, the donation will be used to provide new computers and other equip- ment.
Mom, Kris, and daughters,
Kim, Kourtney and Kris’ boyfriend, Corey Gamble were on hand as they received “The Key to Our Hearts” for saving the center. It was about to close its doors because of na- tionwide budget cuts ... Watts was being hit especially hard and needed private funding to survive.
The Community Center has been a safe haven in an area where gangs are strong.
According to report, mo- manger, Kris is also setting her sights on building a new playground for the kids on a huge piece of property near the Center.
