 Longtime Educator, Described As ‘Lady Of Many Talents,’ Passes
  Mrs. Josephine Dempsey Townsend, life- long resident of Tampa, Florida, transitioned early Friday evening, October 1st, 2021, at Suncoast Hos- pices in Clearwater.
According to her son,
Willie Dempsey, Mrs. Townsend was a lady of many talents; therefore, she was an active member of nu- merous organizations at the time of her passing. She was a member of the Tampa Met- ropolitan Section of the Na- tional Council of Negro Women, where she served as chairperson of the education committee. Committed for quite some time, she is cred- ited with being instrumental in leading and guiding kids at Middleton High School when it first opened.
Mrs. Townsend was a member of Gamma Theta
Additionally, she was a Board member of Mary E. May Intercessory Prayerline Ministry, member of Florida Education, and National Ed- ucation Associations. Mrs. Townsend retired as a Hillsborough County School District teacher, after more than 30 years.
She graduated from Tuskegee University, re- ceived her Master’s in Educa- tion and Curriculum Instruction from University of Tampa. Mrs. Townsend was a member of Christ Gospel Church of Pinellas Park, FL.
She is survived by 2 chil- dren, grandchildren, and other family members.
Graveside funeral services at Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 10 a. m., and viewing on Oc-
tober 13, 4-7 p. m. at Ray
Williams Funeral Home.
