Urban League Of Hillsborough County Hosts Young Professionals Launch And Membership Drive
Former Representative Sean Shaw Delivers Keynote Address
Some of Tampa Bay’s brightest young profession- als, elected officials and allies gathered recently for the launch of the Urban League of Hillsborough County’s Young Professionals (YP’s) group.
Attendees gathered at Black-owned 7th & Grove in Ybor City for a kickoff event and membership drive hosted by Nicholas Glover and Sky White. The YP’s launched to further the group’s mission, which is not only to give 21 to 45-year- olds a chance to network, but also to serve the community through various projects and initiatives. By focusing on their four core principles: Voter Engagement, Candi- date Preparation, Affordable Housing, Mental Health &
Wellness, and Community Outreach, the YP’s can help foster a community of young professionals and leaders that will carry Black profes- sionals and our community as a whole to the next level of success.
Attendees heard an in- spiring keynote message from former state represen- tative, Sean Shaw (HD-61), about the importance of tak- ing the reins of leadership in Hillsborough County, in spite of the obstacles. “These (you) are the leaders of our city and county...we’ve got to embrace that. And we’ve got to make sure that we understand that responsibility,” Shaw chal- lenged.
