This year has been epic to say the least. The world was hit by the COVID-19 pan- demic and EVERYTHING changed.
Students who normally would have graduated in May suddenly found themselves completing the year using a computer. There was no Sen- ior Prom, Grad Night, or even a walk across a stage. But triumphantly, those who won the right to graduate were presented their diplo- mas.
One such student is Ms. Nyla L. Styles, a graduate of Hillsborough High School. She plans to attend Florida A & M University in the fall. She was chosen as the recipi- ent of the 3rd Annual Her- bert Holley Scholarship presented by the Holley family.
Marcus Holley said, “Given the current circum- stances, we as a family, still decided to move forward and award a recipient with the scholarship this year.
“This could be a reminder to graduating seniors that

even in the midst of this storms life will still go on, just in different ways.”
Holley said the presenta- tion was a nice occasion with social distancing and masks clearly visible.
About The Scholarship Mr. Herbert B. Holley died in an automobile acci- dent. Mr. Holley was well known in the Tampa gospel community for his musical
talents.
A Tampa native, Mr. Hol-
ley attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in
1977. He then entered the workforce and worked for Hillsborough County as an Engineer Technician for 25 years.
He was a longtime mem- ber of New Mount Zion M. B. Church since childhood. He later united with Christ Insti- tutional Church.
After his death, his wife and two sons decided to cre- ate a scholarship in his mem- ory earmarked for students who have a passion for music. The Holleys created the scholarship in March 2018 and selected two stu- dents as inaugural recipients.
