    Love Your Ex
“To love others, we must first learn to love ourselves.”
mpowered Greetings. You should love your ex because you love yourself. Believe it or not, every time you look in the mirror, you are looking at your ex. When you see yourself, you should see all the exs in your life.
As a matter of fact, look in the mirror and say... Mirror, mirror what do you see? Your reply will be... “I see an extraordinary person looking at me.” You are extraordinary because your talents are remarkable. You are beyond measure and no one can compare to you.
Your extraordinary personality is characterized by an exuberant level of confidence that causes you to
excel in everything you do. No matter how great or small the task at hand, you do it with excellence.
Thus, bringing you honor and respect that exceeds the limited expectations others have placed on you. Your extroverted charm affords you opportunities to exchange your time, talents, money and God-given gifts among the most elite in society.
Yet you remain humble showing an exemplary demeanor, even in adversely tensed situations. You exhort others to a point of exhilaration. You are not extinguishable because you extract the best from others.
Continue conveying the message of love for all the ex’s in your life and you’ll continue to show love for yourself.

     Sexual Suicide
ou would think that after the HIV era, people
would use condoms and other strategies that re- duce the chance of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Indeed, participating in unsafe sexual relations is actually like placing one bullet in the chamber of a gun and pulling the trigger. The results would be the same in each case.
For the past five years, STDs have been rising and have reached an all-time high. According to the Cen- ters for Disease Control, gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and syphilis in the U. S. are on the rise, 2.4 million infec- tions in 2018 alone. Genital herpes (HSV1 and HSV2) has infected 67% of the global population for which there is no cure. CDC epidemiologists said the inci- dence of STDs were the most cases since monitoring began in the U. S. A.
In fact, numbers rose from a historic low with syphilis close to being eliminated due to the advances in STD prevention. There has been a decline in chran- coid and HPV cases only.
As usual, the highest STD rates are among Black people, Hispanics, adolescents, and young adults. The rates of STDs are highest in Washington, D. C.
These diseases place a serious burden on the public health system as the consequences of the rise in STDs, some of which are asymptomatic and can go unde- tected and untreated.
Other consequences of these diseases include an increase in infertility, infant deaths, drug-resistant gonorrhea, congenital syphilis, and certain cancers. Clearly, there is still a need to increase awareness and intervention of STDs. There is even a greater need to educate our youth and young adults about safe sex practice. Just saying “no” won’t do it.
We Need To Talk About Algebra
I realize that nobody re- ally wants to talk about Alge- bra, but stay with me a couple minutes because this is important. The require- ment that all students pass Algebra in order to graduate from high school is causing many students to drop out that could have been success- ful in any number of profes- sions. Many students don’t graduate from college for the same reason.
Passing Algebra was not a requirement when I was in high school, but because I was good in math my teacher suggested I take Algebra. Somehow I passed, but I never understood the need for it. Over the years, I asked people that I knew in various professions (accounting, medicine, business, etc.) if
MABRA HOLEYFIELD
they ever used Algebra in their work. I have yet to find anyone who had. So when I heard that Professor An- drew Hacker had written a book titled, The Math Myth, it got my attention.
The Math Myth expands Hackers’ scrutiny of many
held assumptions, like no- tions that mathematics broadens our minds, that mastery of azimuths and as- ymptotes (get your diction- ary – I did) will be needed for most jobs, and that the entire common core syllabus should be required by every student. Our one size fits all education system is doing more harm than good.
I agree that basic math should be required. We need it to be financially literate and to be able to function in today’s society. But our kids have enough obstacles to overcome – Algebra should not be one of them.
