EDWARD JENNINGS
Congratulations to Tampa's own Edward E. Jennings, who turned 80 years old last Thursday, April 6th. A former longshoreman and prominent businessman, Jennings has been a staple in the Tampa Bay community for over 50 years. His 'big day' was celebrated with a gathering at his home in West Tampa, which included: his wife, Frances Jennings, daugh- ter, Edwenia Prayon and son, Walter Jennings. A huge host of other family members and friends also attended, with some travelling from as far as Tallahassee, FL!

Hymn of theWeek
By Carlton Burgess
Blessed Assurance
By Fanny J. Crosby
Sharon Anggle once said, “there’s a plan and a purpose of value to every life no matter what its location, age, gender, or dis- ability.” Fanny Crosby, despite being born blind, is responsible for the lyrics of more hymns in most hymn books than any other composer.
She had the unique ability to hear an instrumental melody and match it with prolific lyrics. Such was the case when her great friend Phobe Knapp shared an instru- mental piece she had been work- ing on. Crosby immediately attached these lyrics:
Blessed Assurance Jesus is mine Oh what a foretaste
of glory divine Heir of salvation, Purchase of God Born of His spirit
Washed in His blood
Fanny Crosby became a household name, not only for her hymns but her work as a Bible scholar/teacher. Blessed Assur- ance was inspired from the scrip- ture Philippians 1:21: For me, to live is Christ to die is gain. Blessed Assurance speaks ex- citedly about the prepared place, for the prepared people. It is mind-boggling how a sightless composer could pen:
Perfect submission perfect delight Visions of rapture
Now burst on my sight Angels descending
bring from above
Echoes of mercy whispers of love
