Community Activist Among Three Robbed At Gunpoint
Wal-Mart Employees Charged In Death Of Alleged Shoplifter
Three employees at a Wal- Mart Store in Lakeland are fac- ing manslaughter charges after an investigation into the death of an accused shoplifter.
On Thursday, police arrested Nathan Allen Higgins, 35; Crucelis Nunez, 23, and Randall Eugene Tomko, 58.
Police said Higgins is a store support manager, Nunez works as a customer service manager, and Tomko works in loss prevention.
The charges came after an in- vestigation into an incident on February 7th at the store, 5800 U. S. Highway 98, North.
Investigators said the three employees held a suspected shoplifter, Kenneth Edger Wisham, 64, outside the store just after 3 a. m.
Police received a second call that Wisham was not breath- ing and undergoing CPR. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and died 12 hours later.
Woman Sought For Pouring Hot Soup On Sleeping Boyfriend
OnJuly30that3a.m., Tampa Police were called to the scene of an armed robbery that had just occurred in the area of East Palm Avenue and Angel Olivia Street.
When officers arrived, they determined two separate armed robberies had occurred involving three victims. The first armed robbery occurred at East 9th Avenue and Angel Olivia Street. In both rob- beries, police said Antwan S. Robertson, 28, approached the victims, pointed a firearm at them, and demanded prop- erty. He took their property and fled on foot.
Police units quickly flooded the area and a short time later, Robertson was seen in the area of the McDonald’s. When he saw the officer, he immedi- ately fled on foot. Officers found Robertson hiding in the dumpster area of the Burger King, 2302 North 21st Street and took him into cus- tody without incident. All three victims identified Robertson as the robber and he had prop-

erty belonging to all three in his possession. He was also found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.
The three robbery victims have been identified as com- munity activist and New Black Panther Party leader, Ali Muhammad (Clarence Jones), Jessica L. Kessler, 33, and Alexis R. Kassan, 33.
Robertson has been charged with three counts of armed robbery.
St. Petersburg Police are asking for help in locating a 41-year-old woman being sought on an attempted mur- der charge.
According to police, just after midnight Sunday, Misty Childs and her boyfriend, Lavont Moss, 46, got into an argument in their 13th Av- enue, South home.
Police said when the argu- ment ended, Moss went to bed.
Police said Childs, who had been preparing a pot of soup, took the pot and poured the contents onto Moss’ face and upper body as he was lying in bed.
After dumping the soup, po- lice said Childs left the home and hasn’t been seen since. Moss was hospitalized for treatment of severe burns. Ac-

Police Break Up Prostitution Ring
Four Arrested In
Tampa Police report that in the early evening of April 25th, the mother of James Sim- mons found him dead in his bedroom. Neighbors told police they had seen a young woman days earlier visiting the house where Simmons, 48, lived alone. She was seen leaving in the victim’s gray Chevrolet Cobalt that same day. Prior to that she had reportedly left a series of notes with a neighbor of Simmons.
On the notes was a phone number and a name Aysoni. Detectives spent the next three months putting together evi- dence that resulted with the ar- rest of 26-year-old Aysoni Lewis two weeks ago. The mother of three now stands ac- cused of murder.
Acting on tips and com- plaints, Tampa Police broke up a suspected prostitution ring Sunday with the arrest of 41- year-old Preston Taylor.
Taylor was arrested on 13 charges, including deriving proceeds from prostitution, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
Investigators said Taylor was operating a prostitution ring, using 10-to-15 prosti- tutes, out of two homes in Seminole Heights. He is now being held in jail on a $35,000

Home Invasion
On Thursday morning, Pinel- las County Sheriff’s deputies re- sponded to a call of a home invasion in Clearwater. The inci- dent occurred at 2081 North Betty Lane.
According to reports people inside the home were sleeping when two suspects broke into the home through a bedroom win- dow. Once inside, deputies said the suspects beat one of the resi- dents. When the father of the victim came into the bedroom the suspects reportedly fled.
Two of the suspects were cap- tured by deputies, and two oth- ers were captured after they were tracked by a K-9 unit.
The unidentified victim was hospitalized.
Calling it a drug-related of- fense, deputies arrested Jake R. Bushy, 20; Michael Vitko, 20; Edward Bernard, 22, and James Ryan, 19.
Deputies and investigators are still trying to determine what the quartet will be charged with.

According to detectives Lewis was trying to let Sim- mons know she was pregnant, and became angry when he al- legedly refused to pay for her to have an abortion.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that on July 29th just before 11:15 p.m., Ivonne Rivera- Ramis, 42, was sitting in a ve- hicle with a passenger at 7700 Rivergate Drive when an un- known person shot at her ve- hicle.
Detectives said Rivera- Ramis and the passenger drove the vehicle a few blocks to a nearby McDonald’s, 1002 South 78th Street.
When deputies and emer- gency personnel arrived, they discovered Ms. Rivera- Ramis had died.
The passenger in the vehi- cle, who was not identified, was also struck by gunfire, and transported to a local hospital.
