  Al Dixon Scholarship Presented To Middleton Grad
 Despite the unprecedented and indelible challenges presented by COVID-19, Bridges Over Troubled Waters, Inc., was able to success- fully award the fifth annual “Al Dixon Scholarship” to a very tal- ented, up and coming 2020 gradu- ate of Middleton High School.
Joshua McDonald is de- scribed as a “Man of integrity, trust- worthy and honorable.” At Middleton, he was consistently on the High Honor Roll and was in- ducted into the National Honor So- ciety during his senior year. A member of the Tiger football team, he received its 2020 Community Service Award. Joshua also re- ceived the Coca Cola Achievement Recognition and the Men of Vision Academic Recognition from 2017 - 2019. Aspiring for a career in Jour- nalism and Sports Communication, he served as the Yearbook Sports

This well-rounded young man is
a proud member of Tyer Temple United Methodist Church, where the Senior Pastor, Rev. Douglas
Walker, describes him as being “integral to the life of Tyer Temple as a member of our New Generation Choir, drummer for the music de- partment, an important part of our technology team and a member of our mime troupe.” He is the Youth Worship Leader and a member of the Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development.
Joshua’s service to the commu- nity includes: Food sorter through Feeding Tampa Bay; feeding the homeless at Trinity Café as a mem- ber of Men of Vision; Rowlette Park clean-up, and volunteering at church.
He was accepted at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is expected to become a part of “the next generation of Morehouse Men who will continue an outstand- ing legacy of leadership, justice and service.”
Guidelines for the 2021 “Al Dixon Scholarship” will be available in January. The deadline for re- ceipt of applications is May 3, 2021. Interested students are en- couraged to contact the Scholarship Chairperson, Mary Darby at (813) 620-0490, or the Board President, Irving Ward at (813) 361-8893. The application will also be avail- able online at www.botwinc.com. Scholarship winners will be an- nounced in August 2021.
One hundred percent of tax-de- ductible donations are applied to- ward the scholarship fund. The first-place recipient will receive $1,000.00. The second-place recip- ient will receive $500.00.
