RAY WILLIAMS
MR. LEROY ‘SAM’ GREEN
Mr. Leroy “Sam” Green of 4323 W. LaSalle, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 7,2015,at2p.m.atMt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, 2606 West Grace Street, with the Reverend T. D. Leonard, pastor, officiat- ing. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Leroy “Sam” Green, Sr. was born on January 9, 1924, in Tampa, to the late Mattie Bell Robinson and Samuel Leonard Green. He attended the public schools in Hills- borough County.
At an early age, Sam made two early enlistments. One was the enlistment into the army of the Lord as a youth at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in 1938, and the other into the United States Army as a young man on September 19, 1941, to serve his country. As a sol- dier, Sam fought in World War II, which took him to the shores of Normandy, France, on into Germany. God brought him through dan- gers - seen and unseen - back home to the United States. After an honorable discharge from the Army on October 22, 1945, Sam met and mar- ried on April 12, 1947, the girl next door, Bertha, who would prove to be the love of his life.
He worked as a Laborer in scrap metals at Sol Walker Scrap Metals for well over 45 years. As a family man, Sam was a great provider and was known for his green thumb
as he produced lush vegeta- bles in his annual gardens.
He joins a great cloud of witnesses that preceded him in death: father, mother, aunt and uncles; 3 children, Phyllis, Renee and Leroy Jr.; and 3 grandchildren, Melissa, Maurice and Jackie.
He leaves a living legacy to cherish his memories: his wife of 68 years, Bertha Mae; 4 sons, Freddie Jones (Shirley), Leonard Green, Ronald Green (Helen), and Anthony Green (Jacquelyn); 2 daughters, Michelle Green Dennard, and Miarita Webb- Argo (Anthony); 23 grand- sons, Marvin Pratt, Lamar Davis (Renee), Kenneth Webb (Gladys), Kareem Webb (Jessica), Nathan Den- nard, Leroy Webb, Leonard Green, Jr., Aaron Green, Rodney Brown, Terrence Jackson, Ronald Green, Jr. (Jasmine), Leroy Green, III, Joseph A. Green, Leonard Green, Tony Green, Ronnie Allen, Samuel Leroy Green, Edward Hearn, Tony Brooks, Fred Williams, Edward Berry Charles, Steven Berry and Jimmy Jones; 18 grand- daughters, Lizette Davis (Jef- frey), Angela Lewis (Dennis), Pamela Davis, Carol Davis, Jeanne Davis, Ella Weaver, Shawn Pratt, Coquille Tooms (Michael), Charlotte Pinder (Damien), Courtney Brown, Stephanie Mugin, Charvette Green, Timey Moore, Valerie Williams, Carolyn Williams, Ebony Green, Monique Green and Kenyetta; a host of great grands and great-great grands: stepbrother, Ben- jamin Young; sister-in-law, Lydia Barrett (Roger); brother-in-law, Marshall Jones, Jr. (Josephine); a host of nephews and nieces; and other sorrowing relatives, including the Hamptons, Mc- Calls, Mileys (Valdosta and Morven, Georgia ), who carry his memory in their hearts.
The remains will repose after 5 p. m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at Ray Williams Fu- neral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue; and the family will receive friends from 6-7 p. m.

MR. EDDIE LEE OXENDINE
Mr. Eddie Lee Oxendine of 1719 LaSalle Street, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 7,2015,at2p.m.atFirst Baptist Church of West Tampa, 1302 North Willow Avenue, with Reverend Ray- ford Harper, pastor, officiat- ing. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Born September 17, 1947, Mr. Eddie Lee Oxendine was a native of Plant City, FL, and a resident of Tampa for 14 years. He attended Marshall High School of Plant City, and served honorably during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. For over a decade, he was employed as a Senior Inspector for the Department of Transporta- tion, where he retired.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Cleveland Lamar; stepfather, James B. Williams; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Freddie and Yvonne Oxendine; grandfa- ther, Eddie Oxendine; grand- mother, Mattie Lue Rogers; aunts, Gertrude Byrd (mom), Julia Oxendine and Hattie Hilltop; and brother, Dwayne M. Byrd.
His memory will be cher- ished by: his loving and de- voted wife, Linda Oxendine; mother, Eddie Mae Williams; stepmother, Augustine Dixon; 2 daughters, Shener- icka Oxendine and Shekeria Oxendine; 2 stepdaughters, Tasha Moore, and Debra Es- kridge (Jermaine); 4 sons, Eddie Lee Oxendine, Jr., Vic- tor Hines, Torrence Oxen- dine and Gerell Oxendine; 2 stepsons, Isaiah Jacobs, and Tavaris Grant (Shawn); 6 sis- ters, Sylvia Green (Michael), Donna Williams, Inger Ben- nett (Bernard), Julia Gaddis Brown (Greg), Joyce Bailey (Henry), and Diane Thomas Lamar; 3 brothers, Leroy Brooks, James (Jay) Williams, and Author C. Lamar (Tonya); 2 brothers- in-law, Clanda Wiggins and Derryle Wiggins; 3 aunts, Vera, Louise and Eunice; 6 uncles, Cornelius (Lacrusha) Barnes, Sandie, Darryel, Willie, James and Leroy; great uncle, Willie Wells; 20 grandchildren; Lerniesha Boone; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and special cousin, Jimmy Oxendine.

MS. VIOLA W. PHILLIPS
Ms. Viola W. Phillips of Tampa, passed away Mon- day, March 2, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 11 a. m. at First Baptist Church of Progress Village, 8722 Progress Boule- vard, with pastor, Dr. Sam Maxwell, officiating. Inter- ment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Viola W. Phillips was born August 30, 1945, in Unadilla, GA, to the proud parentage of
Benjamin and Minnie Mae Woodson.
She attended and gradu- ated from Northside High School, Havana, FL. In her younger years she graduated from Hillsborough Commu- nity College (HCC) with an Associate’s Degree as a Li- censed Practical Nurse (LPN). She continued her studies at Hillsborough Com- munity College and the Uni- versity of South Florida until she obtained her licensure as a certified Registered Nurse (RN). Through advanced practice, she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the Uni- versity of Tampa in 2004.
Viola had numerous affili- ations to include: Third Vice President, Ushers Ministry, First Vice President of Healthcare Ministry for Pro- gressive M & E Baptist State Convention, and Facilitator of the Leadership Develop- ment Team.
She was employed by Tampa General Hospital with an accumulated 34 years of dedicated service. Her last position of employ- ment was with the Ante Post- partum Ward at Tampa
General Hospital.
On Monday March 2, 2015,
Viola Phillips peacefully an- swered the call of her loving Savior and is now resting in the bosom of Jesus.
Viola accepted Christ at an early age and became a mem- ber of the First Baptist Church of Progress Village, under the leadership of the late Pastor Roosevelt Robin- son in 1970 and the pastorate of Dr. Sam Maxwell. Viola was an active member and faithful servant of the Adult Hospitality Ministry.
Viola was preceded in death by: her father and mother, Benjamin and Min- nie Mae Woodson; and her siblings, Joe Woodson, Ben- jamin Woodson, Jr., Pearlie Mae Woodson, Mamie Oliver and Bessie Burks.
She leaves to cherish last- ing and loving memories with: her 5 children, Thad- deus Jones (Nicole), Karriem Phillips (Jacquelyn), Raha- mon Phillips (Tonya), Au- drey Peterson, and Landis King (Rickey); 14 grandchil- dren, Thaddeus Phillips, Jr., Brandie Phillips (Patrick), Schemika Young, Shawn Phillips, Quincy Jones, Tajh Jones, Cayleb Stives, Jada Peterson, Deity Phillips, Kyra Phillips, Jalia Bagley, Eric King, Kyla Phillips and Casara Phillips; 4 great grandchildren, Josiyah Phillips, Dimitri Phillips, Amari Maher and Samaya Maher; siblings, Eddie Charles Woodson (Rita), Charlie Woodson (Rose), Janie Mae Clark, Eula Mae Cone and Ruby Johnson; aunt, Ola Mae Watts of Dou- glas, Georgia; godparent, Hannah Maxwell of Havana, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing relatives and friends; and special godson, Gerard Wilder; and god- daughter, Brianna Woods.
The remains will repose from 6-8 p. m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at First Bap- tist Church of Progress Vil- lage, 8722 Progress Blvd.
