On Monday, August 7th, members of the Greater Palm River Westside Neighbor- hood Watch will host their monthly meeting. The meet- ing will take place at 6 p.m., at the Palm River Library, 7625 Palm River Road.
One of the topics of dis- cussion at the meeting is the new Winston Park Recreation Center. The center was closed and under renovation in De- cember 2016, when the build- ing was destroyed by fire. The entire structure was de- stroyed.
Ms. Rilla Henry, Presi- dent and Coordinator of the Greater Palm River Westside Neighborhood Watch said, “We really need our park and I’m encouraging everyone to
come out and attend this meeting. There will be repre- sentatives from the Parks & Recreation Department, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa, and others have been invited.
“During the meeting, we are going to talk about start- ing over and the completion dates for the new center. The public is invited to attend the meeting, especially residents of this community, for this update.”
At the time of the fire, the center had received a $2.5 million grant from the Jeff and Penny Vinik Family Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club. Located at 7605 Destin Drive, the existing center will have several amenities such as a technol- ogy laboratory, classrooms, a game room, and other ameni- ties.
