  Fraternity Welcomes Five New Members
 BUBBA To Host ‘Sons In Suits’ Event Honoring Woodson Principal, Local Mentoring Groups

 Brothers United Building Brothers Alliance, Inc. (BUBBA), is hosting its inau- gural Sons in Suits: Male Achievement Awards and Cultural Extrava- ganza event to encourage men, young men, and the community as a whole to come out in their best formal attire to celebrate brother- hood, community and excel- lence. The event will benefit the mentoring, tutoring and community partnership ef- forts of BUBBA, Inc.
BUBBA is a 501(c)(3) that was founded to engage, edu- cate and encourage young men of color by improving their lives through empower- ment and development via various events, workshops and volunteer opportunities around the Tampa Bay area.
BUBBA has previously hosted its signature Father2Son: Crucial Conver- sations annual event, bring- ing together nearly 100 guests during Father’s Day weekend to discuss the im- portance of male figures to the youth and the issues con- cerning men and young men from underserved communi- ties.
For the Sons in Suits event, the group aims to bring together many like- minded organizations and highlight them for the work they are also doing to develop the young men in our com- munities. This cultural event will expose young men to the unique occasions, professions and various reasons to dress up and wear a proper suit.
Awards will also be given
out at the event, recognizing student achievement, men- torship, local businesses and more. Among those recog- nized will be the event’s keynote speaker, Mr. Ovett Wilson, Principal of Dr. Carter G. Woodson PK-8 Leadership Academy.
Wilson is a passionate educator who began his ca- reer as an English teacher at Middleton High School. He has developed local mentor- ing groups and was presented the Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year and Ida S. Baker Teacher Award for his dedication and commitment to public education. Mr. Wilson reformed the culture at Chamberlain High School, performed dual roles as prin- cipal of Cahoon Elementary and Van Buren Middle School simultaneously, to now looking toward the excit- ing future of Woodson.
Sons in Suits will take place on Sunday, December 2, 2018, from 4-7 p. m. There will be a designated social hour, live music and dinner will be served.

    Caregiver’s Needs ‘Helping Hand’ To Serve Seniors In Community
 Caregiver’s Helping Hand, Inc. needs help with its 18th year of Christmas Senior Gift Baskets for 23 local senior nursing homes, resident cen- ters, and Senior living facili- ties.
“We would like to supply gifts and cards for both men and women. We need volun- teers of all ages to deliver gifts and sing Christmas Carols. We need wrapping paper to deco- rate doors. Basket items needed are lotions, shower gel, body wash, sweaters, socks and t-shirts for men and women, pictures for walls. We need around $6,500 to pur- chase all of the gifts and cards for the Christmas Season,” states Richedean Hills-Ack- bar, founder and Executive Director.

Caregiver's Helping Hand, Inc., is a non-profit volunteer organization. The Intergener- ational Program has been helping local seniors since June 15, 2001. The organiza- tion has established a commu- nity service organization that impacts the community at large by: 1) teaching youth the importance of volunteering and how they can make a pos- itive difference in the lives of others by helping Seniors with Code violations with the City of Tampa by cleaning-up and painting their homes; 2) help- ing young people understand aging and ageism issues like how important independence is for seniors; 3) dispelling aging myths by having youth interact with healthy seniors as well as disabled adults.
“We are improving lives in our community with positive intervention for youth and support services for local fam- ilies and aging adults. Our
Mission is to always give a helping hand wherever we can in our community,” Ms. Hills-Ackbar stated.
The organization needs help in filling the wish list of these lonely and confined sen- iors. Volunteers will deliver the baskets, sing, and play Christmas music.
“We are inviting you, your school, organization and/or your staff to join us in making this holiday season special. Join us in bringing a smile to the faces of the forgotten and see the tears of joy flow from their eyes,” she said.
