Gospel Singer Wants To Leave Her Mark On The World
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Nyja Shine can’t re- member a day in her life when she wasn’t surrounded by music.
“I’ve been singing since I was 2 or 3. Everyone in my family sings, including my grandfather. I was fortunate to have been raised in a house that full of music, mostly Gospel.”
Ms. Shine is announcing the release of her second Gospel recording, “Jesus’ Music,” produced by Boi Dirty and coming out in a week.
Ms. Shine said she’s had the pleasure of performing at some talent shows in the area, and she also sings on the Praise Team at her church.
“I’ve always loved singing, and I get a lot of joy singing the praises of God. I’ve also done a little writing.
“My goal is to leave a

stamp on the world, and pay tribute to God for the invest- ment He’s made in me.”
Ms. Shine said she thinks Gospel music today hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves.
“The circle of Gospel music is very tight, and you just don’t hear enough of it over the airwaves. This music spreads the word and fills you with what’s missing.
“A lot of people receive Gospel music with an open
heart, and I’m answering a calling. I try to sing with a message, especially to young people. I attract them by the way I present my music.”
Ms. Shine said she wants to bring power to what she does.
“I’m an ordained elder, and I live what I sing. I be- lieve God requires more from us, and we just need to repent and do what’s asked of us by God.
“I use the Bible as a guide for my music, and it directs me all the way.”
Ms. Shine is involved in the outreach ministry at her church, Empowered For Pur- pose Ministries.
“I also teach at Peculiar People Academy where we do a lot of performing arts. That’s all a part of my effort to reach the young people.”
Ms. Shine’s first release, “True Repentance,” is gain- ing a lot of interest, and gives her the motivation and initia- tive to continue her journey.
