Tampa Woman Celebrates Her 106th Birthday With Family
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Last Saturday, 6 genera- tions of one family came to- gether to help their matriarch celebrate her birthday. The family mem- bers of Mrs. Rosa Lee Marshall gathered at her East Tampa home to help her celebrate.
Mrs. Marshall turned 106, on Saturday, September 10th. And her family made sure Mrs. Marshall knew it was a special day for all of them.
Her niece, Mrs. Han- nah Johnson said Mrs. Marshall had one son who is now deceased and no grandchildren. But she has many nieces, nephews, and cousins who came out in full force to help her celebrate.
Of the celebrant, Mrs. Johnson said of her grand aunt, “She enjoyed herself and she was glad everyone
was there. She had fun.”
A native of Ocala, Mrs. Marshall moved to Tampa as a child. She worked as a housekeeper for several
years before retiring.
Mrs. Marshall never
owned a vehicle and always walked wherever she went and lived alone. However, a fall caused her to need a caretaker and she no longer walks.
Mrs. Johnson said Mrs. Marshall is doing well. “She has her lucid mo- ments. At the party, she may have asked the person his or her name, but she remem- bered the names.”
Mrs. Marshall is a member of Mount Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In past years, Mrs. Mar- shall’s family helped her celebrate on a Saturday. But this year, she actually cele- brated on the day of her birthday.
Last Saturday, 6 generations helped Mrs. Rosa Lee Marshall celebrate her 106th birthday. Mrs. Marshall is shown seated in the middle. Among those attending the birthday party were: Landdon McCloud, (4th generation nephew), friend, Detra Williams, (2nd generation niece), William Johnson, Hannah Johnson, (1st generation niece), Genieve Burns, Theodore Burns, and Ariel McCloud (3rd generation niece).
