Allen Temple AME Church Honors Its Graduates On Youth Sunday

Recently, the news has been filled with encounters with law enforcement that has resulted in the death of a citizen. In many of these in- stances, the victims have been young Black men.
In an attempt to help keep young adults safe, Pas- tor Moses Brown has launched a new initiative in the community. He is pass- ing out cards with instruc- tions on how to “be safe” during encounters with po- lice officers.
Pastor Brown said, “No parent wants to learn that his or her child is not coming home. And no par- ent wants to know that the child’s death could have been avoided. I’m praying that this will save a life and that no other mother has to lose a child during an en- counter with police.”
The card is filled with common sense tips that peo- ple may forget at the spur of the moment. But, he hopes that the information will be retained by those who read
it. He is even planning on placing the cards in back-to- school packets for elemen- tary school-aged youngsters.
Pastor Brown said, be- fore leaving home to make sure that you have your li- cense, registration, and in- surance card and to make sure the information is eas- ily accessible.
“If you are stopped, don’t run! Make sure your hands are visible at all times, and if you need to retrieve infor- mation, you let the officer know what you are doing. Your entire future hinges on that moment.”
He further stated, if you are stopped by police to: stay calm and in control of your words, don’t argue with the officer, be respectful and po- lite, and remember that any- thing you say or do can be used against you.
Pastor Brown is en- couraging others to join in this initiative that is spon- sored entirely by Feed Our Children Ministries.
