John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co And Sony Pictures TV Developing ‘Paper Gods’ For ABC; Nia Long To Star And EP In Political Drama

John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co and Nia Long are teaming with Sony Pictures TV to bring the saga of power, race and political intrigue of Goldie Taylor’s 2018 bestseller Paper Gods to ABC.
Fatal Affair and Dear White People’s Long will star and ex- ecutive produce the project, now in development with Get Lifted co-founder Mike Jack- son and showrunner Tash Gray.

The man accused of shoot- ing up Lil Wayne’s tour bus in 2015 is getting out of prison earlier than expected. Accord- ing to multiple reports, Jimmy Winfrey, a.k.a. Pee- Wee Roscoe agreed to a new plea deal that sentences him to seven years in prison with credit for time served.
Winfrey, an alleged affili- ate of Young Thug and Bird- man, pleaded guilty to two counts of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, but did so as an Alford plea, which allows him to maintain his innocence. 25 other charges, including multiple counts of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act, have been dismissed.

The script was co-written by Dana Schmalenberg and Rheeqrheeq Chainey.
It centers around an aspiring pop star, Erica, who ends up as the entertainment at her ex-fiancé’s wedding after re- luctantly taking a gig at a lux- urious island resort while in the wake of a music career meltdown. She tries to keep their past relationship a secret from his bride-to-be Beverly, but Erica rediscovers her feelings for her ex, Jason, de- spite his brother Caleb’s at- tempts to keep them from falling back in love. The ques- tion soon becomes will Erica sing at Beverly’s wedding – or her own?
