Pastor Of Allen Temple AME Church Recognized For
Community Work
Rev. Dr. Glenn Dames, Jr. has only been in the Tampa community for a few months. However, he has made an impact since his arrival. Recently, he received an award for his outstanding work in Robles Park Village after he arrived in Tampa as the Pastor of Allen Temple AME Church. The Tampa Housing Authority recognized his work. St. Peter Claver Catholic School Board Member Is Recognized
Sr. Maria Goretti Ba- batunde, SSMA, Principal, announced last week that St. Peter Claver Catholic School Board Member, Frank D. Murphy, is a recipient of the President's Lifetime Achievement Award for Vol- unteer Services. The Award is a prestigious national honor offered to outstanding citizens in recognition of sus- tained volunteer services. This award program was im- plemented by former Presi- dent George Bush, and was fueled further under the administration of President Barack Obama.
Frank's successful pro- fessional football career equipped him to become a life coach to many profes- sional athletes.
Beyond the football field, he has consistently engaged with the community and

supported programs that ed- ucate and empower others to realize their dreams.
Throughout his career, Murphy has held numerous football camps, workshops and toy drives for at risk youth; he's been honored re- peatedly with awards and recognitions for his commu-
nity service initiatives, in- cluding being granted the Key to the City of Callahan, Florida.
Murphy's determined attitude to persevere through the unexpected challenges of life has prepared him to im- pact audiences nationwide as an author and speaker. He believes that when people commit to identifying pur- pose, making the right choices and becoming a role model for others, they will live their best lives possible.
Murphy joined the Board of Saint Peter Claver Catholic School earlier this month. Mike Jensen, Chairman of the Board re- marked, "We are indeed for- tunate to have Frank on our team and to be a part of his. He is an invaluable asset to the School and a blessing to its students."
Tampa To Host 2017 Black Empowerment Convention

On May 19th, residents of Hillsborough County will host the 3-day “2017 Hon- oring Malcolm X State of Florida Black Em- powerment Conven- tion.”
The first two days of the event will take place at Robert W. Saunders Public Library, 1505 N. Nebraska Avenue, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Convention will take place in the Ada T. Payne Community Room A & B.
The final day of the con- vention will take place in the form of a barbecue at Mac- Farlane Park, 1700 N. MacDill Avenue, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The theme is “Breaking Every Chain.”
On the first day of the convention, the group will host Workshops that will be a movie premier for the late Andrew Joseph followed by dialog about Empowering our youth on becoming out- standing citizens. The second day of the Convention is being billed as “an event you don’t want to miss.

we’re in a state of awareness, aware of the things going on amongst our everyday life from our family, to our com- munity and the government.
“Empowering is the abil- ity to bring complete con- structive change and that’s what we plan to bring to the Tampa Bay area this conven- tion weekend.”
He further said, “Today, the areas around Tampa, once African American com- munities and business corri- dors, are changing with a new sense of urban renewal: Grand Gentrification, and to that it’s a race to save our his- tory and our communities.”

be delivering an empowering speech to the people.
This year, the Convention will focus on Empowering through Economic (support- ing Black businesses and our community), Political (rais- ing strong candidates for local and state government/ accountability of Officials), and Education (studying the education system/ support- ing failing school).
All events are family friendly events and open to all. There will be free food and entertainment at the barbecue.
