Eckerd Kids To Host Community Café
Caribbean Heritage Festival At University Area Community Center
Eckerd Kids to host a Community Café on Tuesday, May 16th. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. The event will be held at The rock Church Of God In
Faith, 4323 E. Henry Avenue. The Community Café is designed to provide mean- ingful conversations between parents and caregivers about the organization to better
support families.
Any Hillsborough County
resident, age 18 and older, who has ever received any community services is asked to attend.
The event will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
In celebration of National Caribbean Heritage Month, the University Area Commu- nity Development Corpora- tion (University Area CDC) and the Caribbean-American National Development Or- ganization (CANDO) will present the 7th Annual Tampa Bay Caribbean Her- itage Festival on Saturday, June3from4to8p.m.at University Park, 14013 North 22nd Street, Tampa, 33613.
Festivities will include cultural experiences such as an Indian fashion show, African drumming presenta- tion and Caribbean Dance Fitness demonstrations, as well as Haitian, Puerto Rican and Dominican dance per- formances. Fragrant and de- lectable island cuisine will be sure to tantalize the senses, while the all-island artwork on display will serve as a feast for the eyes.
Headlining the evening, Caribbean music will be per- formed by Jah Movement Reggae Band, Tropical
Groove Jazz Band and, from St. Lucia, Soca sensa- tion – Teddyson John. In- ternational disc jockeys DJ Spice and DJ Baboo will spin the hottest Caribbean tunes as well.
There is an entrance do- nation for adults, while chil- dren 10 and under enter for free.
This event is a fundraiser for UACDC and CANDO, both 501(c) (3) organizations who provide much needed services to the community.
University Area CDC of- fers support for thousands of Tampa residents through youth programs, adult edu- cation and resource assis- tance.

New Internship Program With $15k Scholarship For HBCU Sophomores
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Al- tria Group are announcing a partnership to create the Al- tria HBCU Scholars Program. The program will launch with a cohort of 10 students se- lected through a competitive application process. The ap- plication is open now, and
currently seeking students in their sophomore year.
Selected students will re- ceive up to $15,000 in schol- arships through their senior year to finish their education, and will be placed in a highly- coveted, paid Altria intern- ship. The internship provides a housing and relocation
package.

now, but due to volume it is only open for a short time the deadline is May 19, 2017! If you are qualified apply today and if you know someone who is qualified, please share this information with them.
Free Grant Writing Workshops Planned For May
The Center for Non- Profit and Community De- velopment, Inc., will host three free professional grant-writing workshops. The workshops will be held on three separate dates dur- ing the month of May.
The topics of discussion this month are: “How To Start A Nonprofit,” “How To Prepare A Grant,” and “How To Prepare A Business Plan.”
The first workshop will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., at the West Tampa Public Library, 2312 W. Union Street.
The first hour discussion will be “How To Prepare A Business Plan.” The
second hour discussion will be a “Free Professional Grant Writing Work- shop.”
The second workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This workshop will be held at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Av- enue.
The topics of the session are: “How To Prepare A Business Plan. A “Free Professional Grant Writing Workshop” ses- sion will be covered during the second half of the event.
The final workshop of the month will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. It will be held at the Children’s
Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Av- enue.
