More than 2,200 resi- dents were relocated from the North Boulevard Homes and Bethune High Rise com- munities. That number com- prises 820 households, states Lillian Stringer, Director of Public Relations, Tampa Housing Authority.
However, the residents are not just relocated and forgotten because they’re no longer residents. The Tampa Housing Authority’s reloca- tion plan tracks each individ- ual for a period of 5 years, Mrs. Stringer explained.
“A total of 85% of our families stayed within a 5 mile radius of North Boule- vard Homes; approximately 98% remain within Hillsbor- ough County, and a few moved out of the area, one as far away as New Jersey,” Mrs. Stringer said. “It is 100% the residents' choice where they wish to move to. Our relocation plan simply makes it possible for resi- dents to afford the rent

Young Father’s Murder Remains Open 13 Years Later
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Each year, the number of unsolved homicides in- creases. And each year, more families are left wanting clo- sure, wanting justice, and wondering who is responsi- ble for the death of their loved one.
Shortly after 9 p.m., on August 1, 2004, 25-year-old Warren Donnell Mitchell, Sr., notified a Tampa Police officer that he had been shot and needed help. The officer called Fire Rescue and life-saving meas- ures were taken at the scene. Mitchell was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
He was near the intersec- tion of Columbus Drive and MacDill Street when the unidentified assailant fired the fatal shot. He drove a short distance further before summoning help.
Detectives with the Tampa Police Department investi- gated the homicide. How-

ever, no one has been ar- rested and charged with the
murder.
His mother, Mrs.
Wanda Conaway, said his son, Warren, Jr., was four- years-old when his father died. Now, he is 17 and in high school.
“I just want someone to come forward with some in- formation. I want closure. This “no snitching” rule has to stop.
“Every year since my baby has been gone I’ve hoped that someone will say something.
I need closure. My whole family is asking for help to solve his murder,” she said. Ms. Janelle McGregor, spokesman for the Tampa Police Department said, “It’s very disappointing and frus- trating for our homicide de- tectives when they’re unable to immediately bring a family a sense of closure and peace. “Although several years have passed, we are still hopeful that one day someone will have the courage to come for- ward with that critical piece of information our detectives need to arrest the suspect(s) responsible for taking Mr. Mitchell’s life and to finally give his family the justice they deserve.”
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to the identity, arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this murder. Anyone with information about the murder who wishes to remain anonymous can do so by contacting Crime Stop- pers at 1-800-873-TIPS, or www.crimestopperstb.com.
