Man Arrested For Manslaughter In Death Of Woman
Offers Free Diabetes
Prevention Program
Police have arrested a 37- year-old man in connection with a shooting death that took place last Monday evening. He has been charged with manslaughter in the case.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting at the Travelers Inn Motel, 2523 E. Busch Blvd., Room 218. When the officers arrived, they discovered that Ms. Yasmine L. Tyson, 37, was suffering from an appar- ent gunshot wound.
Ms. Tyson was trans- ported to a local hospital, where she later died.
Detectives launched an investigation into the shoot- ing and leads were estab- lished by the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force. The leads identified 37-year- old Christopher Carithers, of Tampa, as being involved in the case.

The Hillsborough County Health Department is offer- ing a free Diabetes Prevention Program to all Hillsborough County residents. It will be held on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the WellCare Health Plan, 8523 N. Florida Avenue.
The classes are held once a week and the session began on July 18th. However, any- one interested can enroll until August 15th. The curriculum includes a 16-week course with an eight-month follow- up support program led by trained Lifestyle Coaches that guide participants through the facts about healthy eating and physical activity, behav- ior change, techniques for achieving program goals, and problem solving.

Director of the Community Health Division, Department of Health for the Hillsbor- ough County Health Depart- ment said, “Participating in a diabetes prevention class can cut your risk of getting Type 2 diabetes in half. And, since the class is free, there’s no reason not to sign up for one of our upcoming classes.”
The Diabetes Prevention Program focuses on develop- ing and maintaining healthy lifestyle changes. Its goal is to reduce the risk of Type 2 dia- betes in those who have pre- diabetes or are at high risk for pre-diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes, heart dis- ease, stroke, and other chronic diseases. More than one out of three Americans have pre-diabetes and 9 out of 10 people with pre-diabetes do not know they have it.
An individual is at higher risk of having pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes if you: are 45 years of age or older; are at an unhealthy weight; have a family member with diabetes; have family background that is African American, His- panic/Latino, American In- dian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander; and are physically active less than three times a week.

custody without incident and transported to the Hillsbor- ough County Jail.
Carithers was charged with manslaughter with a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $37,500.
“My mother was a loving and joyful person. She en- joyed visiting the Jamaican restaurants,” her daughter, Ms. Jasmine Burkes said.

She was the daughter of Ms. Robin Tyson and Virgil Brooks. She was also the mother of three children.
In addition to her parents and daughter, Ms. Tyson is survived by her son, Corey, daughter, Jaliyah, several siblings, other family mem- bers and friends.
Funeral services for Ms. Tyson will be held on Satur- day, August 5th. Integrity Fu- neral Home is in charge of handling arrangements.
