Shuffleboard Team Hosts 5th Monthly Tournament

Last Friday, members of the local Shuffleboard Team met at Ragan Park Community Center. The purpose of the gathering was the 5th consecu- tive Shuffleboard Tournament of the year.
The Shuffleboard Team is the reality of Steve Scott’s vi- sion to provide a venue for senior citizens to socialize in an entertaining environment. Scott is the founder, director, and trainer of the team. He is assisted in training by Ms. Katherine Palmer.
Last month, the ladies at Fair Oaks Community Center surprised the Ragan Park team by capturing the top prizes. This month, the ladies of Ragan Park took their titles back. Ladies from Spring Hill Community Center also partic- ipated in the competition.
Ms. Gladys Foster and Ms. Quency Jefferson cap- tured the first place honors. Ms. Audrey Acosta and Ms. Connie Bowen took second

month. However, Scott has been campaigning to obtain a permanent shuffleboard court in the East Tampa community.
Anyone interested in learn- ing to play shuffleboard can come to Ragan Park Commu- nity Center, 1200 E. Lake Av- enue.
Scott teaches the game to senior citizens on Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. He also teaches the game at Cyrus Greene Com- munity Center on Thursday, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Scott said he uses portable shuffleboards to train seniors at Williams Park and Fair Oaks Community Centers.

‘Sales Tax’ Holiday Set For 2018 Hurricane Season
    Governor Rick Scott
signed bills designating a 7- day period for Floridians to prepare for the hurricane sea- son. Meteorologists predict an active season with 10 to 16 named storms.
The governor has set aside a 7-day period, beginning on Friday, June 1st through Thursday, June 7th, as the “no sales tax holiday for the 2018 Hurricane Season. The At- lantic Hurricane Season be- gins June 1st, and ends on November 30, 2018.
The items include:
Portable self-powered light sources such as lanterns; Portable self powered ra- dios, two-way radios, or
Weatherband radios;
Tarps or other flexible,
waterproof sheeting;
A self-contained first-aid
kit;
A ground anchor system
or tie-down kit;
Non-electric food storage
cooler;
A portable generator used
to provide light or communi- cations or preserve food in the event of a power outage sell- ing for $750 or less;
Reusable ice selling for $10 or less; and A package of AA-Cell; C-Cell; D-Cell, 6- Vote, or 9-Volt batteries sell- ing for $30 or less.
Batteries for automobiles or boats are not included.
