Those who travel regularly along Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and 26th Street, have seen the progress of the construction of the new C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Library. Andrew Breidenbaugh, Director of Library Services, Tampa-Hills- borough County Public Library, ex- plained that the project seems to be ahead of schedule.
“Now that construction has
begun on the C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Public Library replacement, we have a better timeline of the progress. Construction should be substan- tially complete in late October-early November,” he said. “We expect to open to the public and have a dedi- cation in February or early March of 2019,” he said of the 2-story build- ing. The old building was torn down in May, 2017.
Breidenbaugh delivered the updated news to the Andrews fam- ily on Wednesday.
He said, “We’re so excited about this new library – it’s a unique facil- ity that will create an impressive
presence on MLK and 26th.
The new library will have ex-
panded public meeting spaces, in- creased access to technology and computers, a recording studio, an enclosed children’s library, comfort- able areas to read and relax, a Maker Space for technology and science in- struction, space devoted to the digi- tal archives of the Florida Sentinel Bulletin newspapers, and a reading garden for outdoor activities.
Built in 1994 as the College Hill Branch Library, the library was re-
named in 2010 after late Florida Sentinel Bulletin owner and pub- lisher, C. Blythe Andrews, Jr., who died the same year.

Blythe Andrews, Jr. Library construction, printing, copying, and free internet/com- puter use will be available at the: Lee Davis Community Resource Center, 3402 N. 22nd Street, Tampa, FL 33605, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a. m. - 2 p. m.
