The Florida Highway Pa- trol arrested a 45-year-old man and charged him with DUI Manslaughter. He was involved in a fatal traffic acci- dent early Tuesday.
According to police, the accident on I-275 south- bound at 38th Avenue, North, in St. Petersburg, shortly after 3:30 a.m. Malo Derone Blackshear, of St. Petersburg, was reportedly traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. Blacks- hear was driving a 2007 Mercedes Sedan when he passed a 2001 Hyundai Sedan driven by Ms. Nona Evans, of St. Petersburg.

Deputy Charged In Hit And Run Accident
A Hillsborough County deputy was arrested Sunday night. He was charged with leaving the scene of an acci- dent involving injury, leaving the scene of an accident in- volving property damage, and obtaining property with a worthless check.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Deputy James G. Paes, 39, of Tampa, was in his personal vehicle in Pinellas County. Around 9 p.m., Sunday night, Deputy Paes was re- portedly traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on 131st Street, North, approach- ing 102nd Avenue, North in his 2017 Nissan Titan. He was reportedly leaving the scene of another accident

being investigated by the Largo Police Department.
Deputy Paes reportedly lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to pass a 1998 Dodge Durango, driven by 27-year-old John Dietrch, of Seminole. Deputy Paes reportedly struck the vehicle in the back and continued
on.
Jeffrey Meier, 34, and
10-year-old Jaden Meier, both of Largo, were passen- gers in Dietrch’s vehicle. None of them reported any injuries to police.
After striking the Du- rango, Deputy Paes contin- ued for a short distance and struck a 2007 Silverado being driven by 40-year-old Jonathan Specht, of St. Petersburg, in the back. The Silverado left the roadway, entered the west shoulder, and overturned. Specht was seriously injured and trans- ported to Bayfront Medical Center.
Deputy Paes continued a short distance before col- liding with a fence. He then jumped from the truck and fled on foot, police said.
He was arrested a short time later by a member of the Largo Police Department.
After being treated at Bayfront Medical Center, Deputy Paes was trans- ported to the Pinellas County Jail, where he was booked on the charges. He later bonded
outD. eputy Paes was charged with the first acci- dent by Largo Police Depart- ment and with the second accident by the Florida High- way Patrol. Additionally, the Florida Highway Patrol said an additional charge of driv- ing under the influence is pending.
After being notified of the accidents, Deputy Paes was suspended without pay from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, pending ter- mination.
