Church To Host A Family Friendly Community Fair
City To Host Community Meetings On Water Issues
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Beginning on Thursday (today), Mayor Jane Cas- tor and the City of Tampa launched a new program. The program is referred to as P.I.P.E.S. (Progressive Infra- structure Plan to Ensure Sus- tainability).
The next project will dis- cuss the current state of the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure. Mayor Cas- tor is inviting and encourag- ing everyone to attend one of a series of meetings planned for the next week.
Mayor Castor is taking a proactive approach to renew the infrastructure, prevent breakdowns, and provide long-term, perma- nent fixes to water and wastewater systems. The pipes currently in use are more than 100 years old, and they need to be replaced or

repaired.
As a result of this fact, the
City is proposing a small rate increase over time to help offset the cost of this much needed infrastructure, which will mean dramatically less water main breaks and flood- ing in our neighborhoods.
“We’re encouraging resi- dents to come out to one of four planned community meetings planned. It’s an op-
portunity to learn more about P.I.P.E.S. (Progressive Infrastructure Plan to Ensure Sustainability) from City of- ficials and ask questions,” she said.
All four of the meetings will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. The dates and loca- tions are as follows:
Thursday, August 22 - -- Kate Jackson Community Center, 821 South Rome Av- enue;
Monday, August 26 ---
Barksdale Active Older Adult Center, 1801 North Lincoln Avenue;
Tuesday, August 27 ---
Cyrus Greene Community Center, 2101 East Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.; and
Saturday, August 28 - -- Forest Hills Community Center, 724 West 109th Av- enue.

year-old church, said it it im- portant to give back to the community and be an insti- tution that feeds the mind and spirit.
Supt. Davis further said, “We live in this world and it is important that we understand how it works. In- formation is power and we want to equip our commu- nity with the information necessary to be successful.”
Several community ven- dors will have booths at the event with important infor- mation including HART, Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office, Donate Life, and the Florida (Driver) Licensing on Wheels (FLOW).
Anyone interested in more information, they can visit FLOW to renew or rein- state his or her driver’s li- cense, renew your car registration, or obtain a Florida ID card.
Supt. Davis further stated, “This is a great oppor- tunity to ask questions and get the help you need on a Saturday. You won’t have to try and make an appoint- ment during your work day and if you need assistance with reinstatement county employees we will be there to help.”
Along with the vendors, a free continental breakfast will be provided. There will be activities for the kids and the Kona Ice truck will have cool treats for purchase.
For more information or to find out about the re- quired fees and documents needed if you plan to take ad- vantage of FLOW, email the church at: Info@chcogic.org.
